The question here is how much is the acquisition cost with retention. I think there would be teams interested if there is retention of between 2-3M, but obviously the cost goes up too.

So what is the ballpark cost with 2M retained and 3M retained?

Unfortunately for Jones, HE forced his way out of Columbus and agreed to sign this contract.
Let him rot and enjoy the money. Golf starts in April, every year…
That's a funny way of saying that he informed Columbus he wouldn't be signing an extension with one season remaining on his contact and would instead, explore his options in becoming a ufa. Plenty of players do that and it's not considered forcing their way out.

If anyone actually watched the Oilers this year they'd understand. Nurse has been playing his best hockey since the Canadian division.
It's that. It's also the hater bias against Nurse/Oilers around here and the amount of eyeballs on Nurse in general (being on a premier team featuring McDavid that makes it to the playoffs). Lots of eyes and lots looking to hate on Nurse, even valid comments from within our own fanbase looking for faults. This creates a narrative that he's horrible at hockey. Whereas, who really cares what's going on CBJ or a rebuilding Chicago? The haters are less apparent, the microscope on Jones and his obvious faults never talked about or cared about.

Plenty of CBJ fans are still very hurt by his decision, even though they have ZERO idea as to what was ever said between him and the team/Jarmo. My personal theory is that he didn’t like the complete direction of the team at the time, and also didn’t get along with certain players on the team.

It could be looked at that the team moved on from him, in the same way he moved on from the team. Even the concept of him not wanting to go through a “rebuild” shouldn’t really be looked at that terribly. As you point out, a pretty regular situation in pro sports. The CBJ quite literally have had their worst stretch in the organization since he was moved, up until just this year.

Jones back to the CBJ is the move, IMO. Werenski-Jones again. I’m all about it. The price? Don’t really know, or care.

The forcing part came in when he refused to sign a contract anywhere but Chicago…and now he isn‘t happy? Or Chicago thinks they overpaid? What a pity.

Should be 4th round pick per year, these days.

Yeah, I think we have different definitions of “forcing your way out”. I’d look at a player who demands a trade as forcing their way out. A player saying they’re going to exercise their right to test the market after their contract is up, is what players do every single year. And I have no idea if he’s happy or not and don’t really care.

I understand the hurt. We invest our emotions in our favorite teams and players and things like that affect us emotionally. Would CBJ be open to bringing him back and has there been talk of it? Would be interesting.

...perhaps my use of "better" wasn't the proper term; "more valuable" fits...for all his shortcomings, Jones is still a Top Pairing offensively-minded RD; a far more valuable commodity in most NHL markets than a physically imposing 2nd Pairing LD who doesn't really stand out on either side of the puck...while there's no question that Nurse is far better both physically & defensively, he's still not a great defender, imo...

Nurse stands out defensively. He is top 10 or better in that regard. I don’t think you watch him play that much if you are being honest with yourself. At the same price point, Nurse is the better overall D and more valuable.

...I've missed 3 Oil games this season...three...no, Nurse is not Top 10 defensively...not Top 20...imo, not Top 30...that's the Oil fan in you talking...
