Value of: Seth Jones to anywhere

Would never happen, but I believe he and the Blackhawks could technically mutually agree to terminate his contract and he'd become a UFA.

That said, I think there's probably a buyer or two interested if Chicago eats ~2.000. That's a lot more realistic.

...could Chicago realistically eat $2 mill for the next five years when they need to spend to get Bedard some teammates??...

I think similarly bad deals have moved and at the end of the day he’s a talented RD with size. Maybe someone takes a gamble he improves in a better situation.
Oh, I’m not saying he’s bad. I actually think he could get back to a high level in a better situation. It’s just a big contract that not a lot of contending teams can afford and rebuilding teams probably aren’t going to be interested as he doesn’t really fit their plan. I think he’s stuck in that sense.

I agree that if there’s some retention, he could draw interest. It’s a matter of who can afford him though at that point.

I'm not going to get into an argument over the two, but be honest, how do you think both would look if they swapped teams.

Personally, I think Nurse's flaws would stand out even more in Chicago, but who knows
Nurse when he's on his game is better than Jones defensively. Jones by eye is better offensively, but not good enough offensively to beat out a true Number 1 PPQB, so his PP time is irrelevant to me, PP time Nurse doesn't benefit from stats wise. Thus I'll happily take Nurse's higher Even Strength Goals in his career, over Jones. And the higher end defensive game and consistency. Add Nurse's snarl (something Jones doesnt have) and that's what i'd rather have in my 2-way defenceman.

Id take a flyer on him at 7.5m probably. Loved his game as few years ago, and if he clicks with the team and Nurse as a partner, he could be a steal for us.

Idk if we can handle his caphit moving forward, but for this year I believe we could take him on with Kane LTIR space+sending out J. Skinner, and still maybe have space for another upgrade elsewhere? But no chance that Skinner waives his NMC to go to Chicago, so we'd also need to find somewhere to send him, for free...

I don't see the need for Chicago though. Jones was a premier player at one point, and besides Bedard they don't have much else for a good player to play with. May as well keep him and continue to build the team around Bedard and hope he picks it back up when the team is better. Just not a leader type it seems. No need to take on excess caphit for no reason when they will actually need the money once Bedard is extended and hopefully they are paying some other better players as well. Just wait him out will be how they play it imo, unless he becomes so toxic that they need to move him.

What would Chicago even want for Jones@ 7.5m from the Oil?

Jones would be a good fit for the King's. GM Blake likes chasing big names. It would be fun even if it didn't help.

It would be better to move him after 1st July as his contract was front loaded. He gets $10.5m next year but $5m is bonuses and from then on his real salary is lower than his cap hit by $1.5m-$2m a year.

If the Blackhawks retain say $2m, there is a world where the buying team get a 3rd party to take another $1m-$1.5m in cap hit per year ($800k ish a year in real money) for a 2nd or prospect.

Jones at $6m-$6.5m with the cap going up isn't bad.

His foot must still be bothering him, he has been absolutely terrible since he came back, even worse than Brodie. If he cant be traded then put him back on IR and let him heal up and bring up Korchinski to replace him

There though you are asking the third team to tie up one of their three retention slots for five years...that alone is worth more than just a 2nd or prospect (otherwise fair value for 1-2 years).

Extremely overrated but you might get more value from him on a better team. Especially if he had a partner like Werenski. The challenge would be how much usage... Does he become your #1RD and on the PP or does he become your #2RD and on the 2nd PP unit.

If he was around $6M AAV, many teams call. I'm sure other teams will try to send cap back. If it was the Habs... Gallagher is in the package (2 more years left vs 5 from Jones).

Hawks are not retaining $4.75M for 5 years

$1.5-2M at most

What you propose is not realistic nor would Panthers do it

Also, the biggest issue with Jones is his full NMC
Why not? They're 3 or 4 years from being competitive and aren't a cap team yet.

Minas well do whatever they can to maximize returns.

I doubt it will be hard to get Jones to waive to go to a playoff bubble or better team.
