The Hawks will not retain on Jones just to give him away for no return, he is still a very useful player despite what the either uneducated or biased fan thinks. So no team will “take him for fee” because that is not an option. How much would the Hawks have to retain for :
1- a team to take him for free?
2- a team to pay a late 1st for him?
I think there's too much term/money left for them to buy him out.
Another option could be to take a bad contract back. But, I don't see many contracts as bad out there...
iF the Hawks retain more than $1m per season, the return to Chicago will greater than a 1st round pick. Again, Jones is a big, mobile, RHD who plays 25+ minutes a game in all situations. Those players are difficult to find and have value.
