If that's the price needed to move Jones, Dallas isn't interested. And I suspect that means Jones remains in Chicago for a while.
Agreed..and its not like Chicago needs to move him to shed cap space either. I think a team will get desperate with injuries now starting to add up and the rumored cap increase will make that deal seem more palatable to some team but likely closer to the draft in the summer.

Stankoven, Bourque, and Bichsel are not moving.

To :hawks

D Seth Jones ($2M retained)

Hawks get a C who can win a faceoff (Something we don't have in organization at moment), A young W prospect who can step right into NHL to end year, A shitty cap dump and a future 1st

Stars get Jones at $7.5M cap hit going forward

I am ok with what Blackhawks get in return but they would have to add to Seth Jones. Maybe send back Dallas 2025 2nd rd pick so that way Dallas has a pick again in 1st 2 rounds this yr

The time of it being hard to trade Jones has past. As the years remaining on his contract goes down and the salary cap goes up it gets easier.
Hes got a NMC that hes willing to waive for a better opportunity now and his play is still good. In a year or 2 whos to say hes not terrible but the hawks are on the rise and he would rather stay.

If that's the best we can do retaining 10 million and taking another 4 in Dumba, I would wait until the Summer and let the market open up once Ekblad and Pionk (the only 2 RHD that are even remotely top of the lineup types in free agency) find a home and every team has the 10 million jump in cap in hand ready to spend.

I am not sure how well Stranges translates to the NHL and adding a 5'10 168 lb forward (even if he is Davidson's "type" with skating) to a prospect pool that already has Bedard, Nazar, Moore, Kanserov, Lardis, in the sub 5'11 category seems like a poor fit for the Hawks. Back as a 4th line C is probably better than getting a mid round pick that isn't likely to turn even into him....but a deal for a (likely real) late 1st, a diminutive forward (who may end up a AHL/NHL tweener more than a legit NHL player) seems like a pretty underwhelming return eating 14 million between retention and Dumba.
