Limited NTC so I’d imagine the hawks are on itOh I had no idea he had a NMC.
Chicago is going to have to retain 2m per year to move this contract. There's a limited number of clubs that could even afford him at 7.5m. Now that list needs to be teams Jones would be willing to waive for.
These proposals with no retention, including expiring cap dumps are laughable. Teams aren't going to commit 9.5m to Jones.
I could see Dallas and Colorado being interested as others mentioned. Maybe the Manson/Wood proposal is workable as Manson has another year and Wood's runs the full length of the Jones deal ( I could be wrong as I haven't checked to confirm - but I know Wood is signed 2.5m for long term).
That said I'm not convinced Colorado would want that contract without retention. Moving Wood doesn't open up much cap and you still have to ice his replacement. This is a club that will be looking to extend Necas. Beyond that being obvious, judging by Rantanen's comments made about be willing to sign for less and his experience to date post trade, I wouldn't be the least bit shock if Rantanen's camp circles back to Colorado on July 1st at a number both the team and player are happy with. They also have to extend Drouin. I think a trade to Colorado could make sense it's probably an off season move when the cap picture is clearer.
For Dallas I thought they were shopping with Seguin's LTIR money? That's not typical to see a team go spend it on a long term contract. Possible I suppose with the cap rising. Even still with Dumba mentioned and being on a expiring deal I'd be hesitant to think Dallas would want the full 9.5m next year on the books. Less likely they pay good assets to be the club doing it.
Being one of the few teams Jones will waive for is going to give those short listed clubs some leverage.
He won't waive his NMC for Canada.
Dallas, Florida, Tampa, and Vegas are probably the only places he'd go. Maybe Colorado if he feels like he can win there and they're the only place willing to take him.
With Florida, Hawks could take Ekblad and flip him as a rental.

Fine, 1 million retentionHe’s 30. You can’t guarantee his aging curve. Therefore, the only thing you have as a selling point is what he is right now as a player. If the Blackhawks retain 2 million but he falls off a cliff next year, the Blackhawks made out.
It is obvious from your post you have bought into the social media narrative around Jones and don’t actually watch the Hawks, which I don’t blame you for because they are tough to watch.I'm not sure he's worth 50% retained atm maybe closer to 60-70% retained.
But then again the Hawks make everyone look worse than they are who knows.

That would make no sense for Florida, the whole point in trading for Jones would be for the Panthers to add/bolster their D core for the playoffs, moving Ekblad in a Jones trade leaves them treading water at best. The only benefit to the Panthers would be beyond this year, the Panthers would have Jones whereas there is no guarantee Ekblad resigns.Doubt Ekblad would waive
what? why would the hawks do this? terribleOPTION 5

Keep this in mind:
Chicago is a bad hockey team that won't be unbad anytime soon.
Jones' contract, while grotesque, isn't detrimental to Chicago. They have money. They have oodles of cap space.
There's no reason to expect Chicago to trade him for peanuts.
Outside of a disgruntled player, what's the impetus to trade him? If his behavior becomes a problem there are team/league policies & processes for that.
Bottom line, assess his value as a player. Don't get convinced of a misperceived idea that Chicago has to immediately take a pathetic offer.
We may be discussing trade destinations for him this time next year.
Seems like the truth though. They chased Guentzel, but he didn't want to rebuild. They'll try and chase Marner/Rants this offseason but maybe they don't make it to UFA. They'll chase lesser guys like Ehlers too, but they have to actually make it to UFA.A mindset of "we're going to be bad for a long time so we don't care about Jones' deal" is a depressing mindset to have after getting Bedard a year ago.

They got Bedard after committing to a full rebuild at the 2022 draft. It sort of is what it is.
Seems like an odd trade for Hawks to just toss a bunch of assets, but pass for NYR. We need Cuylle a lot more than we need each individual piece coming back. Sure, when thrown together it looks like a big package but Jones will get eaten up in the media here and nothing is bringing more than what we need from Cuylle right now. I'd rather trade Kreider separately and bring back and 2nd/prospect, or whatever we get.OPTION 5

I certainly am not the guy to defend Korchinski. There's others on the Hawks board for that. I will say that highly drafted really just applies to their D. Which is always a challenge to be young and on defense. Nazar was really good in the AHL and he was the only highly drafted forward. Ludwinski I guess but he's nothing.Yeah I looked at both the Hawks and their AHL team after that and it seems more true than not. The IceHogs have a ton of young highly drafted talent but they're just completely horrible. There is zero way that an AHL team with this many 1st-3rd rounders should be as bad as it is.
The organization definitely seems pretty rotten as an outsider looking in. How they've handled Korchinski is especially perplexing, the dude is a -70 in 128 professional games so far.
To Chicago:
-Matt Dumba
-Logan Stankovan
-2026 2nd rd pick
To Dallas:
-Seth Jones w/ 1.5 mil retention
Ya I figured as much. Then I would say you should probably not expect to get much in return. You have no 2025 1st or 2nd rd picks.Stankoven, Bourque, and Bichsel are not moving.
Done deal from my perspective...To Chicago:
-Matt Dumba
-Logan Stankovan
-2026 2nd rd pick
To Dallas:

Dallas deal is hard because Hemming isn't that interesting and there isn't a whole lot else that would actually move. I'll bet Jones doesn't move until the summer, if at all.Stankoven, Bourque, and Bichsel are not moving.
