It's a shitty prediction in any case. We won't get a damned thing. We've been here several times before and we've never gotten anything from it other than hurt.

WTF? How does anyone come up with a comment like that let alone let it through a major publication.

My guess is he was thinking like a sportswriter, that it would be a great story for the Jackets to win the lottery. And then his tiny little brain took that to Gaudreau helping them from the spirit realm, and then he messed it up even worse with the awkward phrasing.

I am not even sure what that's supposed to mean?
He's saying that Gaudreau will help them in the ping pong lotto draw, like "destiny was on their side", "someone up there was looking out for them" kinda thing, when you get a lucky break.

What I don't think he meant is "because their leading scorer from the last two seasons passed away, they will be the worst team"

I don’t like Seravalli at all so I don’t care to defend him.

But it’s clear people are misunderstanding what he’s saying. He meant that Gaudreau is going to be looking down from heaven and spiritually influence the lottery. That’s different from “this team will be terrible thanks to this guy dying.”

It’s not that big of a deal.

Stupid, and I can’t stand Frank, but he meant more like the spirit of Gaudreau would help them win the lottery finally. Not really worth getting offended over

I think that's how it's supposed to read, but the way it's phrased, it could be misconstrued as his death being helpful to the team for a draft pick. It's still tone deaf regardless.

I know what he meant to say

He still shouldn't have said it. And certainly shouldn't have published it.

Ample reasons to dislike the loser but this is a bit of reach, its pretty clear what he was trying to say he just worded it rather poorly.
