Idk, I think that players in his tier (especially in the NHL) don't bet on themselves enough.

I'm sure their influenced by horror stories of guys who bet on themselves hoping to make more and ended up losing big.

A guy like Ryan Dzingel comes to mind. Sens were rumoured to have offered him something like 5x5 in 18/19 when he had 44 points in 57 games, but apparently he didn't want to stay in Canada and he ended up getting 3.375 x 2 in FA after getting scratched in the playoffs for Columbus, and then got 1.1 x 1 the following year - now he's making league minimum.

I have no idea why DeBrincat would extend.

He's guaranteed $15.3M over the next two seasons and will hit UFA right as the cap significantly increases.

I see no reason why he wouldn't accept the $9M QO next year and walk straight to UFA.
Hmmm, how about a disc herniation that results in 1 year of rehab and/or major surgery. Followed by a decline in play due to pain and mobility issues. Doesn't get his QO because of it, and searches for a team willing to take a risk on him. That's why he would sign.

Curious how 8 years is excessive for a 24 year old?

An 8 year extension would end when he's 33. Goal-scorers typically fall off a cliff around 30.

Number of 30+, 40+ & 50+ goal-scorers in NHL history by age.

18 million over next 2 seasons, if he doesn’t sign he’ll be traded before UFA. Why wouldn’t he sign?

Thanks for the stats. It still won’t stop teams signing such a player long term.

That's actually quite interesting. I'd still love to sign him to 8 years though.

Sens sign one free agent in Giroux and act like they are this extremely desirable area to play for lol

Ottawa has always been a very family oriented small city. Might come as a surprise but some people prefer that to a major metropolitan area.

If Cat is looking for stability and a place to settle his new family, Ottawa is very much a prime destination for what he could be looking for.

Well since he’s top 5-6 since he’s entered league in goals, looks like he’ll be fine.

Guess you won’t be re-signing any of your guys then.

So a core of Brady, Stutzle, Norris, Batherson and Chabot not bad at all
we will see how the team canada thing is handled and if Batherson is punished at all if hes part of it. but add DeBrincat signed long term and not a bad group moving forward. just gotta hope that Sanderson is a hit and you get him signed cheap. or I guess that wont matter since he should be on his 1st year ELC and within 3 years caps suppose to rise 10m
good time to be a Sens fans other than the Batherson and Formenton questionmarks

Yep, and a Giroux, a solid top 6.

Not sure stability is the word I'd use to describe a franchise that recently lost their owner and is in the process of trying to build a new arena.

lol i don’t think you know what you are talking about. The franchise has never been more stable since his passing.

Have you been living under a rock for the past 5 years and missed what this franchise has gone through in that time?

yeah I just didnt include him because he's only got a 3 year. I was close to adding him in as well. I just wonder how many more elite years he has left. I believe he can be good for this contract but I wonder how he will be after another 3 or sooner or later every player hits that wall
he's 34 so not young anymore
