Almost exclusively UFA years I'd think it's gonna be more like 9

He won't get paid under 9. His what ever its called, is 9 million.

I would be surprised if he would take a discount contract under 10 a year.
- but knowing some of DeBrincat's personality, money is not what is important
to him, other stuff are, so in that sense, it could happen, but i would still
be surprised if Ottawa would offer him under 10 a year contract

He looks just fine without Kane, so far has 3 goals in 3 games.

with 2 assists

This is a really, really risky one. You sure you want to do that without seeing him away from Kane?

Well they're going to be seeing him next to Giroux for the next couple years and with Stutzle or Norris long into the future after that, so.

Maybe you're right, the QO is 9 but not sure how many teams on the open market would offer him that on a long term deal, plus it'd be hard to find a team with the cap space available with a similarly optimistic outlook to Ottawa

It makes sense from Ottawa's perspective. He's still gonna be playing with Giroux/Stutzle. Better to get the contract out of the way before he has a great year and his asking price goes up.

And if he has a down year from not playing with one of the best passers and offense-generating forwards in the game?

No offense to Stutzle and Giroux, but they are not close to Kane.

I'd expect it to be closer to 10 than 9.

Salary cap will be rising rapidly, and he holds a lot of leverage.

I could also see him signing a 4 or 5 year deap at around 8.5.and then cashing in when the cap has gone up to 100 million.

Props to the new ownership group for being willing to spend though.

Giroux, Cat, Stu and norris in one offseason?

Will be big if it happens. Big for the team and big on the cap. I fully expect him to be our highest paid player when the contract kicks in because of the number of UFA years the deal will eat. If it gets done, it means that the only pieces I consider core not signed long term are Pinto and Sanderson. Zub boarderline core and also not extended. The players will have to prove they were worth investing in soon.

To all 3 of you,

Only saying 8 minimum because his agent knows the cap is going up soon so him being close to UFA, he may sign a shorter term deal (maybe 3 yrs) which allows him to cash in higher in a few years while also picking his own long term destination.

I do agree though, if its 7 or 8 years, itll will likely touch $9-9.5 mil per

That would be a bargain compared to the Tkachuk contract.

I’ll say close to 9 right now, and that becomes 10 if he puts up 40 again. He could also walk to UFA and be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the higher cap, really depends on how he feels about the risk.

Fair, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see a 3 or 4 year deal, and even if that's all they get the trade is still a huge win for Ottawa.
