Cant believe I didn’t fall asleep

Yakemchuk and Ullmark looked good, otherwise, not much out there.

Honestly drafting Boucher 10 OA and seeing players drafted behind him should be a fireable offense for the whole scouting staff. Im not even trolling, they should all be sent home.

Wish the kid the best, but damn, a 10th on that guy….

Well it's not like most average hockey fans knew that Boucher was just a third liner at best......Oh wait.

He looks on pace to get some NHL games but I can't see him sticking for the year.

I think if there's an injury(Zub's is short term) he might stick around but otherwise they'll send him back to juniors so he can get even better.

Yeah, the pick was that bad.

They should they've been bottom dwellers since 2012

Guys drafted in 2012 are in their 30's now so they don't qualify for "young talent"... Ottawa should have as much young talent as them if not more since we started with several very valuable assets in 2018

That said, I'm kind of hopeful that we are going to stockpile young talent again (after 3 years of dilapidation), very re-assured with the Yak pick and we have several 4th/5th rounders who are possibilities to become legit prospects. I'm quite high on Moore and Wallenius vs players usually drafted in these rounds.

Well it's not like most average hockey fans knew that Boucher was just a third liner at best......Oh wait.

That was with the right development and without being injury-prone...

Yeah, the pick was that bad.

It makes the McIlrath pick look good and this is a fire offense by itself.

Ostlund and Kulich are a result of the Eichel and Reinhart trade respectively. Tage came from O'Reilly, etc.

- Addison is a very poor man’s Brannstrom, no way he’s offered a contract imo

- as everyone else has noted Ostapchuk just isn’t ready yet. No worries, wasn’t expecting him this year anyway personally.

- Jenik also makes sending Ostapchuk down no issue, really like the way he plays. To me he’s clearly been the best guy for the 4th line centre job.

- Yakemchuk and Ullmark were obviously great.

- Not worried but have yet to see Pinto do anything of note in his games.

- Crooker unfortunately hasn’t done much either.

The battle for the 4th line spot is getting a bit clearer.

The two "open" spots will likely go to Gregor and Jenik with Cousins. MacEwen rotating in and out depending on opponents.

Reinhardt and Halliday will stick until the last cuts. I would guess Gaudette as well.

Crookshank is unlikely to make an impact. He had a decent opportunity today to show what he can do and it's just not there. I don't see him passing the 5-6 guys battling.

Addison was an odd fit from day 1. Small defensemen when our coach clearly wants size and physicality. He's not better than JBD and/or Hamonic. Kleven is still a bit of a question mark but he plays physical.

I would bet Staios adds another defensemen before season starts. We need someone, especially with Zub and Chabot often injured. We are 1 injury away from having a really bad defense, we need another legit 3rd pairing guy at minimum

Their situation was messed up for years but they haven't stopped stockpiling picks and prospects, that's how you rebuild properly

2017 Entry 8 1 Casey Mittelstadt
2017 Entry 54 2 Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
2018 Entry 1 1 Rasmus Dahlin
2018 Entry 32 2 Mattias Samuelsson
2019 Entry 7 1 Dylan Cozens
2019 Entry 31 1 Ryan Johnson
2019 Entry 67 3 Erik Portillo
2019 Entry 160 6 Lukas Rousek
2020 Entry 8 1 Jack Quinn
2020 Entry 34 2 John Peterka
2021 Entry 1 1 Owen Power
2021 Entry 14 1 Isak Rosen
2021 Entry 33 2 Prokhor Poltapov
2022 Entry 9 1 Matthew Savoie
2022 Entry 16 1 Noah Ostlund
2022 Entry 28 1 Jiri Kulich
2022 Entry 74 3 Viktor Neuchev
2022 Entry 134 5 Vsevolod Komarov
2023 Entry 13 1 Zachary Benson
2023 Entry 39 2 Anton Wahlberg
2023 Entry 45 2 Maxim Strbak
2023 Entry 141 5 Scott Ratzlaff
2024 Entry 14 1 Konsta Helenius
2024 Entry 42 2 Adam Kleber
2024 Entry 71 3 Brodie Ziemer

That's a lot of talent in 8 drafts. They didn't waste their high picks on Boucher, DeBrincat and Chychrun... They even added the guy who was picked with the gift Colorado got from Dorion.

I mean… they drafted Matt Savoie 9th overall and then traded him for a 3rd line checker 2 years later.

I’d say that’s a waste…

I absolutely love Ullmark's personality.

It's weird for a hockey player to sound this smart though.

He's Swedish. He's automatically great

Ryan McLeod is an excellent player, I'd really want to have him. I'd go Greig - Pinto - McLeod as my 3rd line.

He has a low 2.1 AAV this season and then still RFA. First, he is a top skater which helps his overall game in all facets. He's excellent defensively and has elite PK metrics (edited!). Even his offense is underrated, averaged more than 30 pts per 82 games the last 2 years, pretty much all at ES

I would have LOVED Dorion to waste his assets that way instead of what he did...

lol Ryan McLeod is an average 3rd liner who isn’t elite at anything. He was 5th on Edmonton amongst forwards in PK TOI per game. Derek Ryan was higher on their PK depth chart.

Imagine trying to prop up the Sabres as a “good” rebuild. Or Ryan McLeod as some kind of “elite” add.

It’s been an absolute dumpster fire there, just like here. Moving a 9th overall pick for a Mathieu Joseph clone 2 years after the draft is horrific asset management, just like drafting Tyler Boucher was.

At least Chychrun and Debrincat were supposed “stars”.

But neither of these teams are examples of the right way of doing things. That’s why we’ve both sucked for so long.

Hopefully that changes for us with a new owner and Staios… but I don’t have much hope for Buffalo under Kevyn Adams.

Ullmark was peppered for a period and half and stood his ground, thats a good omen. Need to see Pinto centering a 2nd line of actual roster players next few games with Norris out, not sure how well he'll be able to perform at that role yet.

Sorry, my mistake, he averaged a big 0:34 less than their most used forward. He was the 3rd most used the season before though, 0:19 less than Janmark, the PK specialist. I shouldn't have said it like that but "elite PK metrics" instead. MY FAULT

Imagine trying to prop up the Sabres as a “good” rebuild. Or Ryan McLeod as some kind of “elite” add.

I didn't say that... I said that stockpiling picks and prospects is how you rebuild properly... Wait, unless you think "the Dorion way" is a better way?

Again, you're playing with words, dishonestly. I never said McLeod was an “elite” add. I said "elite on the PK" when I should have said "elite PK metrics", that is ALL.

The only thing you're doing here is revealing that you want to argue for the sake of arguing. You think it was a waste, GOOD FOR YOU, I don't. I really had no intention to be forced into a stupid debate at the end of a nice day.

It’s been an absolute dumpster fire there, just like here. Moving a 9th overall pick for a Mathieu Joseph clone 2 years after the draft is horrific asset management, just like drafting Tyler Boucher was.

ok if you think it's comparable... I don't

That said, they obviously thought that Savoie "won't be that good" so they traded him before his value goes down. They probably should have sold him for more but who knows what the full story is?

At least Chychrun and Debrincat were supposed “stars”.

But neither of these teams are examples of the right way of doing things. That’s why we’ve both sucked for so long.

Again, this is not what I said so most of this conversation is just useless. I have myself said multiple times when we were stuck under Dorion that we were on our way to Sabres territory in terms of futility...

Hopefully that changes for us with a new owner and Staios… but I don’t have much hope for Buffalo under Kevyn Adams.

I'm not a Buffalo fan so I don't follow everything they do, so I have no idea outside of their players and prospects, and what I see is a lot of talent in their organization. Will they do anything with it? Well, I never said I knew.
