Speculation: Sens need to trade a core player

That’s how I felt two years ago when people were talking about the core needing a shake up to get over the hump. But then I stuck it out, blamed the goalies and coaches for two more years giving the core a few more chances and now it’s just obvious that this group together isn’t working.
It's not obvious though, they're still so young especially given their 2 best pieces are their youngest ones. The entire off ice org was literally just completely overhauled, patience is a virtue

You keep banging that Zub drum. I know he hasn't been great this year, but it's still the position of biggest need in the org. Why do you think him, genuine question. Ya, Yak looked great in a tiny sample, but they would absolutely need a Zub replacement in the short term at least or it would be a big step back
Because he s getting concussed each year, no other reason. The more you get the easier they come the next time, and last longer.

Agreed, just still can't see who would replace him is the problem. I think they use him up and let him walk, Volchy 2.0

They added 4 veteran guys in the off season, who won cups.
No reason to make the Sens worse, you can keep those guys.
sure amadio and cousins are fine depth pieces, and Jensen is a real addition, but i don't think Perron and the 1st two can contribute at a level commensurate with team leadership.

They also have Giroux, they have no need for Kreider, your team doesn’t want him either anymore. Sens pass

Something’s gotta give. They have their supposed core locked up and continue to be terrible with only one real NHL quality prospect in the system. Missing their next 1st too.

Clearly it isn’t working

Lawson Crouse for Shane Pinto?

I'd do that if I was the Sens.

Brady and Crouse could go a long way toward a new team identity.

Maybe see if Chicago would take a chance on Norris also. They need talent and have cap space. Try and work a deal around Connor Muprhy.

The team would be much tougher to play against.

kreider is the anti-giroux. the exact kind of player sens need. the guy who scored a natural hatty against carolina to keep the season alive.

most rangers fans would be ecstatic to see him retire a blueshirt. sens and a lot of other teams would jump at the opportunity to grab him.

Could not agree more tbh, Kreider is money even if he is slowing down a bit. Idk wtf GoldenJet is talking about, I would absolutely take Kreider and a bag of pucks over Perron and Amadio given their numbers so far and I would think most Sens fans would too.

I think Tkachuk does get moved...somewhere he isn't "the guy" but "a guy" or "one of the guys".

If he could go somewhere and be the Kessel to a Malkin and/or Crosby would be ideal.

Not sure how many places in the league have that type of landing spot waiting for him and/or the assets to actually land him.

They are nuts to move him unless they are in very long-term mode beyond the three years he has left on a deal after 2024-25. You cannot find a player like him who agitates, scores, fights... you just know he would be a playoff guy.

Except that’s not the proposed trade. Poster wants Chabot and Pinto.
For Kreider and Lindgren, Ranger fans are trying to dump Lindgren on the trade board. Kreider is not the same player anymore, just watch him.
Staois would pass on that trade imo.

He could be but if you can't ever get to the playoffs, who cares?

You just get to a tough reality which is that the current mix isn't good enough, you can keep rolling it back but it'll likely never change unless you get some hot shot draft picks which makes you deeper/better or you swindle another team in a trade.

The Leafs are in that predicament too, it should be a no brainer to extend Marner and JT but because we haven't had playoff success, no rush.

It just seems every time Ottawa brings in a marquee FA they flop. Ullmark is learning the hard way the team has something rotten in its core.

we're just talking here. Let's backtrack - you don't think Kreider is a player who would help the Sens get to and win in the playoffs? 35+ goals over the past 3 years? best PP netfront guy in the league? kills penalties? money in the playoffs? don't kid yourself. at 6.5 with cap increasing he's a bargain.

so now what do you offer for him?

Ah, ya ok, agree on Lindgren, I've seen that. I agree that trade sucks and Kreider is slowing down to be sure but compared to Perron, for only 2.5 mil more I'll take the 9 goals and big physical guy for PP2 vs DP's donuts. We're talking about a guy who has been a Sens killer over the years and who potted 39 last year at an almost ppg clip 🤷‍♂️

Agreed. Norris for Kreider a decent starting point?
