Sens Lounge: "Pleeease won't you be.....my neighbour"

Bearings on Dodge was complete ass. If they cared about their reliability they would have done a recall a long time ago on the front end suspension. It's a known issue but Dodge stays quiet.
Only car brand I've owned where the non-oem replacement parts were better quality than the oem ones.

Interesting. When I got my genesis with about 80-90k I was told it's the original clutch and shit talkers would say it wouldn't last to 100k. Sold it at 140something and the clutch was still going strong even though I would do launches and pulls and donuts and burnouts lol took so much abuse and kept going as new.

But then the 300 had $1,000 repairs every year

The Dodge is a 2009 and Hyundai is a 2010. Both rust proofed every year. Both washed every week and waxed often. Look at the difference in how they held up over time.

The car makes a difference.
Nice shape, I use Rust Check each year probably stop after 10 years, as I know I’ll be changing in a few years.
I find after year 10, repairs are more frequent and costly I find.

Ya I had something that was a little past warranty, took it in, guy goes oh ya, that’s common failure.
TBF he gave me a decent discounted price.

I might have been lucky. Knock on wood. I plan to keep my 22 Kona til like 2037...ish.

That doesn't make sense. My house was built in 79 and it's close to there. There is no way that was a dirt road for that long.

So my parents threw out their paper maps...this is the best I can do...1985 and it's a bit blurry, but you can see des epinettes was built from 10th line west ward...and the connection at Jeanne Darc came later.

So my parents bought the house we grew up in before it was built. Moved in November 1988. Went to visit the lot in summer of 1988 and that dip was all dirt...so when it rained was all mud. Cars got stuck trying to go through it...my dad put on 4x4 in that jeep I showed earlier.

Here's 1985 google satellite imagery. You can see the area where Turnberry and silverbark are has been cleared of forest, but development didn't start for a few years after there. Houses are built in 88-89-90 on those streets. I just watched home video of 1989 and only a few houses are built on those streets. Crazy to see.

Uhh no you will not need most of those things... You're keeping your mechanic rich though.

I constantly drove 10-15 year old cars in mint condition just regular oil change, rust proofing, and tires last 8 years for me...and brakes last 6 years for me. And I drive them hard and even took them on track days.

Edit: I will say it depends on the car. With my car and my family growing ups car, we did not need to get suspension or exhaust work on a

1988 jeep Cherokee kept until 2005.
1998 Ford Windstar kept until 2012.
2001 Toyota Camry kept until 2015.
2010 Toyota Sienna still going strong
2010 Hyundai genesis still going strong but just sold

Howeverrr the 2009 Chrysler 300 needed suspension work every 2 years it seems...and my cousin with a 2008 Dodge Magnum has the same issues.

Otherwise cars have needed basically no maintenance until they're 14-17 years old. Just oil changes and rust proofing and keeping in garages.
Those were Mercedes chassis, which had built in camber and toe that was harder on the suspension, but sportier to drive, and more refined.

Do you own a sword?
talk to Larry Gatlin or the Gatlin brothers after the Uvaldi massacre.

STYLIZER...I will die of shock if you can decipher that.

In fact, if you spend all the time that you need and remotely guess at that, You will be anointed GRAND SAGE

The 300...sportier to drive and more refined? I think not.

The 2001 Toyota Camry handled way better than the 2009 Chrysler 300. The 300 was a boat with soft suspension that bounced around. It was meant to be a comfortable ride, not a performance car. Unless you're talking the 6.2L SRT8 model...which I did not own but have driven in...and they were still a boat, but a bit less.

The 300 had a slightly stiffer suspension than the intrepid...which basically bottomed out on any slight bump with speed. Couldn't take "chemin de la montage" in Aylmer without hearing the crunching/grinding of the suspension bottoming out on the intrepid. The 300 was slightly better than the intrepid because it didn't bottom out, but at the expense of annual repairs lol

Basically out of

2001 Toyota Camry XLE
2009 Chrysler 300 limited
2010 Hyundai genesis 3.8 GT
2022 Hyundai Kona N

The 300 was by far the least nimble... Not even close. Also weighed the most by like 700 pounds lol

But it was the only one that advertises itself as a luxury car...and yet had the cheapest interior...fake chrome everywhere that is just plastic with a film cover...fake chrome rims...which are just ugly rims with a plastic cover...like a rich man's hubcap....all fake wood on the inside...leather cracking within a few years despite treating and protecting it many times a year. Touch screen was like that of the bank tellers in 2005...the genesis touch screen of the same generation (2009 vs 2010) was miles ahead in definition, size, and functionality.

I can't think of a single thing the 300 was best at. Total crap car...but it looked gangsta, so there's that? Lol

They used to up until about 10-15 years ago.

My parents live off des epinettes in Orleans. A lot of that area was repaved between 2012-2018. I remember it greatly. The whole area was getting repaved. That area was built in 1980-1990 and so that timeline makes sense.

Now I live in chapel hill south....built between 1985-1995...so 5 years after des epinettes area...but it's been 10 years since they redid des epinettes so my area should have been repaved 5 years ago...but no.

I reached out to my political representative in our area and they said it's not in the budget to repave, but they did acquire this pothole filling truck to go around...the problem is the holes are beyond pothole filling...they need complete repaving.

I took all these pics on a walk the other week...even the grading is brutal. Low lying areas without drainage...basically ponds everywhere that are destroying the pavement...water goes underneat the road through these massive holes and then freezes and expands and cracks and the wholes get bigger.

We need to repave. Not just fill pot holes with soft puddy lol.
amalgamation beginning in 1995 and extending to 2005 hurt. It depleted city money
Un-employment control, 1990-2010, meant that the city of Ottawa, The Province of Ontario and the government of Canada, have used themselves as un-employment solutions. Growth in Unions over the last 50 years has meant insane salaries and pensions and perks.

So, over the last 20 years, there is little to no money for roads...

The global situation is being made considerably harder by the rising cost of health care. As medicine improves, we live longer and cost more. And so we drain more money out of general use such as civil services and into specific areas such as health care, salaries. pensions and perks.

And in a world of global competition, and today Tariff's, AND a population that is unwilling to sacrifice, we do not want to pay taxes. In fact, the buzz word of the day for any politicians is "tax cut" . So no added revenue.

In the end, all roads in Canada will be dirt road over the coming years.

Don't sit at your window expecting your neighborhood street to be repaved any time soon.

People that are 60 and younger, are going to see a world very different than that their parents and Grandparents lived in.

I do not envy a 40 year old, who, good fortune did not smile on. And so, he/she is not wealthy. Their age 60 to death years, will be unpleasant.

Good luck to many.

We are as a society, "metaphorically speaking", have spent the last 40 years smoking 3 packs a day. We are now 55, have developed a cough, a shortness of breath and have a Doctor's appointment on Monday. Guess what is coming?

The 300 was based on the previous generation E class. Make that of it what you will, but it helped back then with refinement and driveability. How it ages is another matter. But magazines back in the day loved the dynamics of it, the Charger and the wagon version which escapes me at the moment...

The magnum. My cousin still has it...never used it anymore though.

It had the same issues. Complete boat.

They were based off the e class as in they tried to copy some elements...it was not a partnership or engineers from Mercedes or anything...so it was like if the engineers of Nissan 350z studied a Ferrari and tried to copy elements as cheaply as possible...doesn't mean they were anything close.

The 300 was a performance car in the sense it could accelerate faster than N/A 4 bangers and that's about it.

My parents took it from me and still have it collecting rust because the engine still starts so it still works...don't know when it was last driven though lol

That seems really fortunate...

I had a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon, it needed a replacement catalytic converter, a new transmission, brake work (twice) and that's just what I remember in the ~5 years we had it.

Had a 2012 Focus that seemed to always have some sort of problem (I seem to recall bearings being an issue, something with the transmission, battery after 5 years but that's to be expected).

My Lincoln MKX gave me troubles too, though it was always stupid things like the battery randomly dying, the trunk refusing to open, the brakes warping,

My beater 2015 Cruze is being a pain now too, the AC died, and the power window died the next summer. It's old, but only has 88k on it,

Have you ever tried Toyota, or Honda? Lol

The Camry, sienna, and genesis all lasted way better than the Windstar and 300.

I forgot about this issue earlier...the Windstar...I was like 16 and taking it and got down the street and it was revving high and the engine temperature was high and stuff...some type of pump issue or something. Had to drive like 200m at a time and shut the car off for 10 mins to let it cool and then drive another 200meters lol.

I prefer Japanese or Korean over American, personally, and it's not even close.

Well the hyundai was the worst of the bunch, they never could figure out why the check engine light was always on, they'd fix it for a week and some new issue would arise until it was out of warranty.

In all honesty, sometimes it's just luck of the draw but there are definitely some cars that are more reliable than others.

I think they were still on the upswing in 04, but you're right.

This is your sim city. You are mayor/prime minister.

How do you creatively solve this issue?

You cannot... True power lies with the Provincial government. Doug Ford has absolute power when it comes to Ontario. Including absolute control over municipalities.

And so tax dollars are dispensed by the Premier.

Even local tax collection, in the form of water /sewer charges, licensing, etc. must all be approved by the province.

That has made Toronto the 800 lb gorilla. Ford has been maneuvering some 50-55 billion in infrastructure spending on the GTA. Including such things as an underground tunnel. It has meant there is ZERO dollars for us.

The giant mistake was made in 1867 when Ottawa should have appealed for district status and accepted being under Federal control. It would have meant that we are autonomous, and answerable to the PM and Parliament.

Since MPs live here, it would have meant a massive syphoning of federal dollars to beautify, upkeep this city...And the Premiers would not have been able to do a damn thing about it.

But city elders in 1867 were not the brightest.

Today, we are f***ed. The Feds no longer spend, they let everyone work from home. Ford and Toronto MPs do not like us. At 10 seats, we are not a significant block.

Our one hope continues to be the same, An alliance with all eastern Ontario communities. And a lose alliance with Northern Ontario and the extreme Western Ontario. That could give us a combined 25-30 seats, which could make us the majority within the majority government at Queens' park.

Then we can syphon Toronto and Southern Ontario money to the Alliance and squeeze the shit out of them, they way they squeeze the shit out of us.

ONE GIANT PROBLEM.. Ain't no f***ing way in hell, this alliance will ever form.. Ottawa is disliked by everyone. And, this kind of coordination/brokering/forming of an alliance needs a charismatic, Messiah like figure. And he/she do not exist.

They need to be perfectly bilingual. Accepted by rural and urban residents. Appeal to the educated and non. Appeal to liberals and conservatives.

AND then.. that Messiah, has to ingratiate himself with one of the 3 main parties, help them win and flex his/her muscle as head of the Alliance inside the governing party.

REALISTIC SOLUTION. Mass exodus to rural communities. This will cause a collapse of city. The Feds needing to save face and not have the Capital of Canada look like one giant slum, moves in. Nationalizes the Capital region and read up.. the good times will flow again. Unfortunately the people late to the party, those that flee or try to flee last, will be f***ed and lose a fortune.

Mass migration to communities 20-30 minutes away is your solution.

You haven't even a clue of what the reference is to?

Ahh, we Westerners. So unaware of life around us.

Do you want the explanation or do you prefer to stay in the Dark. I doubt Larry Gatlin would ever answer you.

As for your time Machine.

Here is your answer. Worm Holes... At present they are only hypothesized to be very tiny and so not usable for travel.

But... Here is the beauty.... They need heavy salts to grow... NaCl 2,3,4 etc,

we have ocean's worth of salt. If we can form heavy salts in large quantities, we can form, expand and stabilize a worm home.

Then time travel.

HUH!! one issues. We would need a mother humping amount of plasma to create negative mass/energy.

Or get mater to oscillate in a way to produce negative mass.. May not be possible.

There is option plan B.. Your friend Stephen Hawking proposed a Tipler Cylinder. It does not need negative energy. It must be infinitely long though! He poopooed a theory that showed a finite length cylinder would work.

Anyhow, what do you need it for. If you go back in time, you risk sleeping with an ancestor of yours..EEEKKKK,
