Sens Lounge: "Pleeease won't you be.....my neighbour"

Not sure what you mean by no means of verifying it's accuracy, there are links on the side to source material, this is really just an auto summary function.
AI generation is code, written by people.

Of late, I have been doing a great deal of historical and religious searches. There is a fantastic void in human education as it relates to both.

I stumbled accidentally on a music group from Central America (they are of German heritage) who do Gregorian chants. Chilling voices. So, 4 weeks now of religion, history and their cross over.

Less a true, neutral subject search. You risk information sway that is dangerous.

But AI as a global concept is dangerous.

We humans can think, once a machine does, it is dangerous,

I am more frightened than comforted by its reply of "NO,...".. It was talking to me. But the reality is, a code writer was talking to me.

What if I ask all sorts of sensitive subjects? Like I said, If a 14 year old asks a delicate question.

Hey Mick... one brother and his 3 sisters, can chant Requiem Aeternam and have you damn near peeing in your pants. Wahh, what 2000 years of Christianity has produced. Too bad the history and full content has been lost.

I never knew, the Hellenic empire in Egypt and the Arab world, split into two empires. They did so shortly after Alexandre the Great died. They then fought to extinction and allowed the Persians and Romans to take over. The Romans then pushed the Persian out. This launched the Roman empire and Caesar/Cleopatra, etc.

Ironically enough the Roman Empire did the same thing 400 years later. Only this time, they did not fight, And in a twist of irony, the surviving empire was Greek speaking and became the Byzantine Empire (Formerly the Eastern Roma Empire). This launched Christianity, through Constantine the Great (A Serb). It would be displaced by the Ottoman empire (modern day Turkey).

The vacuum in order from 500-700 AD allowed Islam to flourish, which pushed Christianity out.

Unreal.. Oh, you will like this. The Romans invaded everyone. They made Putin seem like a child.. But by 350-400 AD, it started collapsing on them and their enemies rose up. Tragically the revenge factor, coupled with religious zeal to cleans all that came before, meant that pre- 300 AD information, is largely lost to us.

Brave new world, we should be afraid of;

AI generated answers are scary.

I open Google and type "Do leaves from tropical trees decompose slower than other"..

I am making compost and have been using leaves from Avocado trees in the heap. I noticed that they do not seem to break down as quickly as the local maple or oak.

The AI response

This has been happening for months. I can type any question like/comment like and the machine will talk to me. Frightening!!!

regardless of the subject matter, an answer. And no means of verifying its accuracy, authenticity, slant, and so on.

So much as the slightest skewing of the code, could alter content and direct people onto a specific path.

Ouch.. What happens when some confused 14 year old types in questions about mental health, and it replies "suicide"?

I don't see any of that stuff, sponsored links either. You should be able to turn it off. Pretty sure uBlock blocks it in my case.

As for your latter question, they have done a lot of work to be careful around things like that. I don't say this to promote AI, but like, you're not the first person that's occurred to, they have put failsafes in place for exactly things like that. Like, five, six years ago that was an issue

Thanks very much for that!!

My son went to the Indonesian embassy in Ottawa many years ago and joined a small group that learned how to play Gamelan music. They might still have such a group there.

I did a quick search and found this:

I think the terminology for that is “product of Canada” meaning it’s grown/produced fully in Canada. Very confusing though - companies are purposely trying to obfuscate as part of their marketing strategy.
They always do! :)

I agree. I try to find fully Canadian products...(Canadian owned, Canadian made, sold in Canada, etc). For some products, it's super easy as it's all we know. For other companies...not so much.

Like if I want cheesies, I can get Hawkins and they're delicious..

But then I google Canadian chips companies and Google tells me Frito lay Canada...humpty Dumpty...

Yet you research these companies (if you didn't already know) and they're clearly American companies with a Canadian branch or division...that's still pumping Americans if you buy it...

There are certain markets where Canadian companies are severely lacking or we have like no foot in any market.

Even things like chocolate...smarties are Canadian...coffee crisp is Canadian...but who owns them? Nestle, a Swiss company.

Are there any known specifically Canadian company when it comes to fun foods? Candies? Chocolates? Chips? Pretzels? Etc.

Like if I listed 50 super popular and known junk food, none would be by a wholly Canadian company. Skittles? No. Starbursts? No. Fuzzy peach? No. Doritos? No. Lays? No. Miss Vickie's? No. Cherry blasters? No. Tootsie roll? No

What about tv companies or computer companies? Toshiba? No. Dell? No. HP? No. Samsung? No.

Like, how do we buy wholly Canadian stuff when we almost don't produce any common goods?

Like yes, we make Alcan...so you can buy Canadian tin foil...but what about cereal? General Mills? No. Kellogg's? No. Post? No.

What about tooth paste...Colgate? No. Arm & hammer? No. Crest? No.

Deodorant...old spice? No. Axe? No. Dove? No.degree? No.

It's kind of hard buying Canadian things when nothing is Canadian.

It's easy to buy Canadian eggs or milk but that's about it...

Looking for power tools... DeWalt? No. Makita? No. Milwaukee? No. Ryobi? No. Craftsman? No. Black and decker? No. Mastercraft is it I guess?

Shampoo? Head and shoulders? No. Dove? No. Pert plus? No. Tresamme? No. Pantene? No. Herbal essences? No.

Like literally anything you think of...even if made in Canada, it's probably owned by an American company or from some other country and the profits are mostly going there.

Yes it's good that they have a manufacturer in Canada with jobs...but it would be much nicer having known reputable companies in these industries that are wholly Canadian and people could buy fully Canadian goods without going to some super sketchy unknown products.
Canada is a small market compared to many other countries so we cannot produce everything cost-effectively at a competitive price versus the rest of the world. Our competitive advantages are limited.

Our top exports are:

Covered Bridge, Que Pasa or La Cocina for chips; Hummingbird, Rocky Mountain, Purdy's, Laura Secord, or Ganong for chocolate; Ganong or Kerr's for candies.

In some ways yes and in some ways no. I look at it like what are the core elements a society needs to function. Housing, agriculture, medicine, industry, education. These are all elements that can sustain us on our own. The rest are the luxuries we have grown accustomed too. When everyone drove the same car, wore the same suits, same dresses, like in the 20's that way of life was very sustainable. The introduction of individuality gave way to over production and waste. Canada could produce our own automobile, washing machine, cell phone, textiles if we truly cared about our own sustainability. Over the last 100 years we have been conditioned to sacrifice independence for interdependence to make the less people more wealthy.

Just as an aside because I forgot to mention it in my other reply, but speaking of the dangers of modern technology-- you should really be careful of what you choose to share online because you seem to have just doxxed yourself with that post, John.
not really.

They always do! :)
Goldendoodle who just turned 11 this week. He still has puppy energy but is super stubborn. He's my everything, but the little potato needs to stop giving me a hard time when I have to wash his paws.

Also needs to stop trying to chase raccoons and opossums because he's losing that fight.

Reminds me of another commenter who once shared a screenshot where we found out that tangentially that he'd googled something like "how do you herd cats?". And now his name is CatHerder. :D

@Micklebot : milkbag is right, maybe you can help remove Beech's screenshot or at least remove incriminating info?

Thanks for flagging this, it's dealt with.

Vehicles is number 2 and computers number 3, yet I can't think of any Canadian owned company that's a major player in the internation automotive industry, or a top tech company.

I actually can't think of a single Canadian car company...yet I can name multiple Swedish car companies for example...or Australian...both smaller countries...

When I google Canadian computer companies, I just get Canadian subsidiaries of bigger companies from other countries.

I always get purdys...but anything from a Canadian company for cheap chocolate bars? Like Reese's or oh Henry or snickers?

I remember wearing the same clothes: hand-me-downs.

We did not own a car until the mid-1950s as they were very expensive at the salaries earned then.

I think the mass production of products has reduced the cost and prices. Our market is not large enough to achieve the "mass" required to get the costs down for many products. We also do not have the intellectual property rights for many products that were developed elsewhere.

Milkbag..

Others live in fear. I don't.

Anyone who wants to drop in, can do so..

If his intent is ill will, one of two things will happen. Either he or I will pay a real severe price.

I accept the consequences if I am the victim.. Does he?

I appreciate, I saw.

She has been dead for 2 years and to be honest, I don't much of a f*** about anything.

Like I wrote, anyone who wants to visit with ill will, take your chance. One of us will not be left breathing. If it is me, so be it.. He has to ask himself, if it is him?
