Post-Game Talk: Playoff spot engaged

Missed the game. Good that they clinched but I see Ekholm played under 2 minutes, please tell me he didn't get injured. I can't see them beating L.A. without him, it would be hard enough even with him.

Drai also seemed kind of off in his media scrum today and short with some answers as if there was some injury frustration. The Oilers just seem too wounded, a season full of setbacks. This just doesn't appear to be their season IMO.

There's credible reporting coming out that the medical staff was adamant about Frederic not being ready, but was overruled by management, coaches, and player. That's organization failure. And what's to say it didn't happen with Drai and Ekh?
Ya if that's true then it falls on the Oilers to actually listen to the doctors instead of making injuries last even longer than they should.

Hyman has looked like he's been held together by tape for a month and a half. Was expecting this to happen but not until the playoffs. Definitely looked like a guy who should have been resting.

Can you share this reporting source and ideally link for context?

Well we clinched so that’s good. We will see what the playoffs bring.

I wasn’t as worried about all the injuries but starting to get a bit more worried. The good news is that McDavid has ramped it up and is looking great. Hopefully it buys some time to get more healthy bodies back.

Pickard often saves his best work for the last five minutes of games.

I liked the all 40's line tonight

Old Connor is definitely back.

We scored an empty net!

Ekholm's inujury is concerning and now Hyman. Limping into the playoffs we come!
Really likes the 40's line tonight. I thought they all played well and Jones looked like he did the first night.
Watching Ekholm skate to the bench did not look good. Looked like a wounded deer

Mick claims to have had 4,000 ---so Corey is still a minor leaguer.

Missed the entire game as Friday night is D&D night. How did the injuries to Hyman and Ekholm happen? Read Ekholm aggravated his existing injury after 1 minute. If that’s the case who’s the idiot who cleared him to play?

I am beginning to think we have Dustin Schwartz’s relatives as our medical staff.
Same. Well... PF2E night...
I didn't see the Ekholm injury, but I did 'cheat' a little and throw the game up on my 3rd monitor.

I don't think there was an incedent with Ekholm (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I think he went out there and just struggled and fell a few times.

Spec is a turd though. Maybe he’s right and maybe he’s full of shit. But that’s some serious fear mongering.

He also hates this team. He’s loving every moment of this. Make no mistake
I am no fan of Mark Spector. But the playoffs are 4 games away and the Oilers have Draisaitl, Ekholm, Hyman, RNH, Walman, Frederic, and Kane out. Ekholm, Frederic, and Kane wont even be starting the playoffs. We don't really know how Draisaitl and Hyman are. Frederic isn't even skating(!). There were talks earlier in the season that Kane might not even play, period, so Spec's reporting tracks a little bit.

I don't think I've ever seen so many injuries to so many key players at the worst possible time. Not just on the Oilers but on any team period. It almost seems made up.

Writers are always looking for a good story and they like it even better when there is some controversy involved.

Hopefully Nuge doesn't have any equestrian related illnesses or sprained ankles (coming out of the horse barn).

The Oilers are banged up but this time of year so are a lot of other guys around the league. Although its been said many times before, the fact is that the Oilers are an older team and it takes longer to heal.

MC-D and Drai (we hope) to the rescue. Oilers win in 6 and move on to round 2. That's the advantage of having the 2 best players on the planet even when they are nicked up.

This season makes me realize how tremendously healthy we’ve been the last 3 years. Aside from Drai injuries in the playoffs, our key guys haven’t missed significant time.

It seems the long playoff runs are catching up with this team. Last playoffs, especially the Florida series was brutal physically, and they only had 2 months before training camp began again. I don’t think most of these guys got a chance to fully heal+strengthen their injuries from last playoffs.
It's age as well. This is one of the biggest issues with an aging team, more injury prone. They really needed to win the Cup the previous two years, that was their window. Of course you never know, they could make a Cinderella run but this looks like a likely quick playoff exit with their skating wounded.

Also, when is the medical staff going to come in question. This is multiple incidents now of players returning then going back on the injured list. Draisaitl, Frederic and now Ekholm. Something is amiss with the way this has been handled by the organization, it's not a coincidence that this keeps happening.
