For movie and sport in 4K , this is amazing. But I just watch IPTV content, most of it in sdr. Picture is grainy a little bit. Maybe the Sony would not be better. This is I want to know. Do you know if the Nvidia shield pro would help
I was having problems with my picture quality on IPTV running it just through the tv. I bought a google chromecast 4K for like ~$60 and it fixed everything. I just run Tivimate app through the chromecast plugged into the tv. I have a pretty cheap tv and everything looks incredible now.

I have the Google chromecast 4K I like it but wondering, if a better box would help for picture quality. I heard good thing about Apple TV but can not put Tivimate

Also, your x90l How you compare picture quality to your CX. Is it black good enough, the blooming, on hockey do you have stutter, artifact, blurry image when the center caméra. When you see a picture of a city at night, is it all detail
My buddy owns both the Nvidia Shield Pro and Chromecast 4K and says that while the Shield is a bit better, it’s not even close to 4x the cost better. Fwiw.

Do you see a difference between TSN and sportsnet. Mine both are 60fps but sportsnet feel like a good 1080p

My understanding, which could be wrong, is that the processor (upscaling, speed of processing, quality, etc.) is important to getting a great picture on a 4K TV. Also important is the display which affects the speed of change of the brightness and color of the moving picture.

I have two top end 4K Sony TVs: a 3 year old 42 inch in my family room and a new 2024 85 inch in my rec room. I am still in the process of installing the 85" version with a new Denon Receiver and 11.1 speakers. I have been a bit lazy getting it done because I had to install 8 new speakers with new cables for rear surrounds and 4 Atmos height speakers. I don't use external streamers at this time.

Let me know, how good your Sony is when installing. Wich model

Are you talking about their 4K channels?
For me I prefer TSN, for HD or 4K

But Prime has them both beat now.
For hd, sportsnet and tva sport lots better than TSN and rds

Agree prime the best

Ya it might help a bit. I'm still on the reserved side when it comes to processing on the fly but I much prefer Android external box functionality to built in smart TV platforms. Sometimes you can run in to other things going on that another device ends up solving or handling better for reasons other than just PQ processing, so it can be worth a try. If you order from Amazon, you can always return it for a full refund if it doesn't improve things. Select a reason for return that puts the shipping cost on them and you're $0 out of pocket to try it. I've done that to try or compare devices I wasn't sure of.

I would say my X90L exceeds my CX in some ways, and not in others. Keep in mind it was basically the same price for a 20" bigger size, so prices weren't equal, but I'd say it's more tech trade offs than "better". It's better suited for a bright room with windows to deal with since it is capable of a significantly brighter image. That's probably the biggest thing. IMO OLED's are for light controlled rooms and LED's are for the brighter ones with windows. Generally speaking. With Local dimming on the 90L, I find the black levels are excellent and not far off OLED. Technically the CX wins out for being able to have pure black that OLED's are capable of, but I'm more than happy with the 90L's black levels. Near black details are much better resolved on the 90L but that's something OLED's have typically struggled with. There is some blooming on the 90L, but it doesn't bother me. Certainly not as much as the auto brightness limiting on the CX does. Those things seem to be subjective for what bothers users more, so ymmv. I find hockey is better on the 90L and watch it there typically. It handles motion better with less stutter and produces a brighter more accurate white. Can't say finer details or artifacts are an issue on either. I enjoy gaming on both and they're both fully capable of the new standards. I don't notice lost details on night scenes, and in reviews, the 90L was celebrated for handling this better than its comparable competitors. I did a ton of research and the X90L was the sweet spot for price and performance, but things may have changed.

It depends on what the source feed is running at. You should be able to see what the specs are somewhere in the channel description. The IPTV I use has all the TSN and SN channels at 1080p and 60 FPS.

This is basically my understanding too. The processor is the engine, but you still need the tv to be fast enough to keep up.

I've bought Samsungs for decades. I gave my old 65 inch Plasma TV to my inlaws, and this TV is 16 years old. YOu would not believe how good that TV looks still, and the balcks on plasmas were always amazing, as was the heat coming off that TV!

I have an 82" in my theatre room, the Q80, and it is spectacular, whether for movies, sports or PS5. I was thinking of going with projector but changed my mind at the end...

I have the 43" Sony 43X85J (Nov 2021) and 85" Sony Bravia 9 K85XR90B (July 2024). I like both but picture quality depends on the source. 4K Blurays sound and look great on both. My 4K collection is growing.

I have a Sony Bravia 8 Soundbar (Google TV) attached to the 43" TV in a small 12' x 12' sunroom (my wife gets annoyed if I start to talk about adding speakers there).

I have a Denon AVR-X6800H Receiver with the 85" Sony TV (Google TV) with an 11.1 speaker system consisting of 7 Paradigm speakers (2Mains-1CC-2SS-2RS) with 4 Energy V Mini Height speaker system, plus Paradigm 15" sub in my basement Rec Room.

Nice , I just bought myself in december a Paradigm home theater. The 700f premier with se atom for surround and defiance x10. Also have a Denon 3800. I have no center , I prefer phantom center

I check the BRAVIA 9 but don t think the picture value 2000$ more than BRAVIA 7

I recently purchased 2 Paradigm SE Atoms to replace my old Paradigm bipole speakers as side surrounds and 2 Paradigm Atom SE Center channel speakers for my 2 rear surround speakers (they fit the shelves in the rear of my room better than the Atoms). :)

My front speakers are old Paradigms (2 large floor-standing Studio monitors and a CC that fits inside my Bell'O rack.

I have a 3rd system in my living room: Paradigms again with lovely rosewood side panels.

I would love to get a home theatre with the Paradigm Persona speakers but the price is a tad high and would crimp my future income as I am retired now (would have to win the lottery as otherwise my wife might kill me).

Ya, software can matter too. Technically, last years Hisense competing model with the Sony I bought had a better processor iirc, but in real world tests, the Sony was coming out ahead because of their software. Same goes for the local dimming. The Hisense had like triple the zones, but reviewers (actual ones, not just Youtube paid advertisers) still gave the edge to Sony in most cases because of their algorithm's being much better.

Looks more like $2500+ the additional taxes with the 7 on sale and the 9 not on sale.

On one hand, there's likely some diminishing returns there, especially if not seen side by side. On the other, FOMO. Always a hard choice if you're not just rolling in expendable income where affordability is a non factor.

Only regret I have is going 85" instead of 98".

You’ve gone over my head, but I’ll take your word for it

Really !!! I far you sit. I m at 10ft and would like the 85 but fear with low bitrate content. I think the BRAVIA 7 in 75 is the best bang for the buck

Lol, fair enough. I've only got 1 foot in on the behind the scenes tech and have limited understanding. Less so the further away I get from my purchase research lol.

I think simply put, it's not just about what hardware you've got, it's how you use it too sort of thing, so even if Hisense rolls out TV's with a better processor than Sony, the Sony may still outperform because of the software they use with it.

The more dimming zones for local dimming the better, but again, same principle as above applies. Having more doesn't automatically equal better unless your software manipulates it efficiently.

Exactly, my friend have a Hisense and I can t watch anything on it. Too much soap opera effect.

I was thinking the other day. Sony make movie so probably know how to transfert it to a tv
