Makes you wonder...so I smoke weed regularly (explains a lot)

I don't crave it, but it's generally part of my routine. It doesn't seem to be to mask anything...it's just part of routine if that makes sense.

So I'll end up smoking almost every day... But if someone says "why don't you quit"? I'll say "because it makes things even better. It's not that I have no fun without it...or that I can't eat. I live a normal life without it. Full of happiness. But then when I do have it, I find it makes my fun day 10% more fun...it makes my food taste 10% better. It makes me sleep 10% better. Etc."

I don't seem to have an addictive personality. Sugar or not, no problem. Drinking or not? No problem. Coffee or not? No problem..

But out of routine, I'll smoke every evening...out of routine, I'll have drinks every weekend.

Not sure what this is. People will say "you're addicted to weed if you cant quit" but it's not that I can't quit...it's that I don't WANT to quit.

I WANT to have 6 beers on Friday or Saturday night. I WANT to have coffee in the morning. I WANT to smoke a bit of weed before bed to relax on the couch.

I wonder what we call that.

I've had the odd coke in my youth...I've had the odd nicotine. I've never felt any urge to do it again.

Yet Ill smoke weed every day and will push back against anyone who tells me to quit.

Nothing seems to be related to my stress levels or bored levels.

Seems to be more routine...like "oh, I'm gonna leave the house? I'll brush my teeth" whereas me it's "oh, were going out to some event? Let me take a bowl or two before I go out"
I think most things are more habits than addictions. Wake 'n bakes were great until you realize it makes each subsequent joint less impactful. Spending the whole day stoned becomes less rewarding. Tolerance shoots way through the roof until you start only smoking blunts 5 time a day. Eventually you will come to realize that that 10 percent boost to your day is just the lie you tell yourself because you've actually forgotten what it was like before you blazed. Fasting is great for your mind & body.

That is called a habit. Not being able to start your day without a coffee, or some beers on the weekend, or smoking some weed before bed is the addiction.

Mind over matter is a powerful tool in life and places things into perspective. It allows you to recognize your habits and how they affect you.

I have recently started drinking coffee in the morning and can see why people do it. I also can recognize the effects it has on my mind and body. For starters its a nice warm drink in the morning that suppresses hunger. When you grind up fresh beans it smells great, just like the smell of a new batch of weed(I only just realized this as I'm writing lol). The effects are a sense of focus. After a while I found I would wake up with a dull headache until I would have a cup. For 30+ years as an adult of never needing coffee in the morning I notice the difference. I am in the habit of looking forward to a cup in the morning now. I found a good nights sleep is better than a cup of coffee in the morning. I smoked weed longer than I went without coffee in my and thought the main benefactor was better sleep but it's not. You condition yourself to make that connection because you sleep hard on hit but you don't sleep well. Only after truly getting it out of your system can you see how it's actually not doing the things you think it is. It's at that point you understand the concept of mind over matter.

again, you belong to a much smaller group that is not dealing with external/internal issues. Consider yourself fortunate.

By and large, most addictions/dependencies and so on, are connected to other issues.

and so when you are indulging in something becomes of want and not need. You can go without it.. If the situation is a need and not a want, now addiction and no control.

There is no self respecting doctor on earth, who if you go to them and they have some concern about your state, will not instantly ask about; alcohol, drug, and eating habits.

Watch the documentary on the late Doc Holliday... weight as high as 300 lbs, down to 200 lbs, drug use, pain killers...I am sitting there watching the documentary and just shaking my head.

mental pain, leads to physical pain, leads to methods to alleviate the pain.
mental ease, leads to indulgence, which leads to a search for the next high.

A rich kid, and/or raised in a good environment, is looking for the next high. The next rung on the ladder. often with risks involved. It is the rich who ski, go down double diamonds and break bones.

A poor kid, and/or raised in a poor environment, is looking for? a whole lot of things. Some polar opposites... A shielding of pain on one hand, and tattoos, so that he may be in more pain on the other.

A world of NEED. A world of WANT. Ideally, all humans would be raised in a world of neither. But then, the psychology department at U of O would shut down.
No actually, he is part of the majority. It's the minority of the population that deal with internal/external issues who resort to taking drugs.

Your post makes no sense.

Have to admit, that watching MLB has not been something I’ve been doing for quite a while…..however did tune in and caught the 10th inning of game one of the World Series ….. quite the ending, so have been checking a bit more of it out.

The viewers numbers are quite high, in terms of television rating, the the Dodgers-Yankees matchup has averaged 15.15 million in Japan and 14.5 million in the United States…….. just a tad under 30 million in the two combined, and still less than the Joe Rogan Experience episode that dropped on this past Saturday…. Yes, apples to oranges… the World Series is a live event and the Podcast can be viewed/listened at anytime…. But interesting…. The World Series is looking like a sweep, and could be done tonight

Some exciting moments but what a let down to see it go 3-0 and not be a close series.

Smaller group? Really?

I've know people that regularly get trashed to mask the pain...but they were doing things like getting wasted alone on weekday nights... basically drinking every night alone.

I wouldn't say this is the majority though, like at all.

Maybe it's my group, but pretty much everyone in my group which happens to be my cottage group only drinks on weekends and only in the evening once everything that needs to be done is done. Sure, the occasional day drinking happens...but these people are drinking to celebrate. It's to increase happiness and not to mask sadness. They're also drinking a reasonable amount. Just to get a little buzz that increases interactions. Not to be out of control.

Maybe it's my circles, but the overwhelming majority only have drinks a couple nights a week and it's done socially. The very small minority are alcoholics masking depreciation .

But it is doing the 10% thing. Like I said, I don't always smoke.

So I've had plenty of meals without smoking before, and plenty with smoking before, all recently. Meals just hit the spot way more after smoking.

Ive watched plenty of tv completely sober and after smoking recently, and tv is more enjoyable after a bit of weed.

Same thing with video games. Same thing with hockey games.

There are pros and cons. If I watch a sens game without smoking, it's exciting, but not AS exciting...but I will remember more of the game the next day.

If I smoke, a shot could go 8 feet wide but I would be like "omg this is so exciting!", but then I'll remember less of the finer details the next day.

But that 10% thing I say, is very true. I do things sober and then also high often enough that I can tell the difference.

It's the same as having a dinner with friends with no alcohol and then one with.

They're both fun. One is more fun.

The claim that sugar is more addictive than cocaine comes from a study of lab rats and is entirely circumstantial.

There's a reason you don't hear of people sucking dick for a jar of Nutella
I mean, Nutella is cheap and legal, no need to go to such extremes!

Ya, just need a sliver of common sense to see through those sensationalist headlines. I have no doubt excess sugar is bad, but that shit is silly.

As you said you smoke weed regularly. You formed a routine around doing it. You associate being high with getting better enjoyment out of things. That is the basis of a habit forming addiction. You may watch sports and eat sober but never let your equilibrium zero out. Like I said from my own experiences you don't know until you come back to zero and actually have the ability to make an objective analysis as opposed to a subjective one what the truth is. Now, this doesn't mean you need to stop what you enjoy, I'm just saying that a lot of things can cloud your judgement is all. Your environment plays a big role in the equation also. The phrase being honest with yourself stems from the ability to be introspective. Smoking weed would definitely make that exercise more interesting but you wouldn't be able to fully examine the parameters of the task with any real objectivity.

Like I said it's easy to forget how good 10% less is when you decided it's the new norm.

I would say that study probably holds a lot of merit. Our bodies use stored energy because of Cocaine where as the body converts everything we eat into sugar and uses it for energy. On sugar our bodies get addicted to the simple energy and it changes the way to body works. Sugar is extremely bad and is the primary for the cause to out of control health care system in North America.

There is sugar in Nutella?

Holy shit I thought it was full of vitamins and shit.
What's funny is in Italy, their commercials are all like "start the day with nutritious Nutella " lol, but damn that shit tastes good. Nutella on Italian bread, or a baguette. Nutella PIzza. Nutella on cookies.

Speaking of cookies, the only cookies I ever buy, the Peak Frean assorted pack, have disappeared. I am struggling

I have stopped doing it entirely for months. It's not like this is new..the first time I smoked would have been over 20 years ago lol. I have had my ons and offs and I just find smoking here and there most days seems to make my life more enjoyable than not...and now that ounces cost me $85 and last forever...it doesn't cost much a year.

I already am a super happy person without it. With it, I'm a super happy person + 10% lol
