Doing some apartment shopping for places in Edmonton. How sketchy is it that I'll be getting a place without visiting it first?

It's worth remembering:

Limited brand offering, bulk purchases (by Costco) and bulk selling.

And they have (like 50%) less employees per store than a company like Walmart and other competitors.

If you wanted Costco's everywhere - hundreds of thousands of people would be out of work and looking for new jobs.

Costco also has a clear target market - the middle class to the rich. Whereas Walmart tries to target everyone but especially the poor to working class.

There are real reasons Walmart and many other companies pay so little. I'm not saying it's right but it's not so simple as "these companies are ethical and these other ones are evil".

any nice TV likely has smart as its feature

Sure looks like it...

I would love to pay just a bit less for not smart feature though.

I am not at all interested in having the internet on my TV: I just watch movies and play video games, Bluetooth is more than enough.

I am not familiar with the market but seems pretty damn sketchy considering how all we hear these days is how hard times have fallen on Alberta.

I'd highly recommend you visit before committing.

I did that when I moved to Vancouver in 2005.

I lucked out, got a sweet place for real cheap. The only downside was that I think we were the only people under 45 living in that building. It wasn't a retirement building per se, but the area definitely had a large percentage of retirees in it for some reason.

It could have gone way, way worse.

My son used to eat lime wedges until he was like 6. Like, 4 years straight.

He's 9 now, and he loves spicy food... adds habanero sauce to his food like all the time. And he hates "kid staples" like hot dogs. Hates ketchup. Hates cake.

I can't figure this kid out.

well the lime and spicy food may have to do with living in indonesia, mightnt it? though the no-kecap thing doesn't fit with that theory.

my older son used to love chili sauce when he was like two but he unfortunately lost that (though he has kept the "really loving something then deciding he doesn't actually like it at all" thing...)

younger son also loves lemon and doesn't like cake. he has slowly come around to spicy things thanks to the wonders of ramen. both kids will tolerate high spice levels if it come in the form of kimchi ramyun

Well, wanting salty food means there's some sort of mineral deficiency. Perhaps needing to eat sour or spicy food is a medical indicator of some sort as well?

The smart feature adds next to nothing to the cost. You can get a dvd player for 50-80$ that adds the same functions, so the most you could expect is to pay about that much less. Not worth worrying about imo, just find the model you like and search/wait for a sale, the try and haggle for a lower price.

I've always craved salty foods... like badly craved. But is it really a mineral deficiency? I've been told it's because my blood pressure is so so low or maybe it's because I don't drink enough water (in which ppl also say you crave salt). Or maybe it's hormonal?

But do cravings all have to be an indicator of things or just a preference? Like I don't love sweets (except when hormonal for some reason).

Not sure exactly what mineral it was (for all I know, it could be a lack of water, but by brain is letting me down here) but I do remember one of those science shows a while back talking about strange eating cravings leading back to the body being deficient in something.

So I'm actively trying to plan my honeymoon for 2 weeks in October. The wife wants me to surprise her with where we are going. Great :shakehead. I've been staring at a picture of a world map and am at a loss.

I know some of you guys on here are pretty well traveled. Any suggestions? I'm actively trying to avoid the UK, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Cuba, DR because we've been there and are looking for something new.

Me and my wife after our wedding in August last year went to Maui for 10 days. (Kaanapali)

We had an absolutely amazing time.

Paris and Venice are my two favorite cities in the world. Both very romantic. From Paris you could do short trips to Alsace and/or the Loire valley, which are beautiful places as well.

Napa valley in California is also great, esp if you like to drink wine (and who doesn't?) -- and you can tack on a drive down the coast from the north to San Fran.

A few places I'd recommend (based on personal or friends going and loving).
- Thailand (get the cool culture + some amazing beaches/warm resort like areas but flight is $$)
- Croatia (few friends have recently gone and it looked amazing)
- Costa Rica
- Honduras (Roatan)
- Iceland (it really is beautiful)

I personally wouldn't recommend Venice (at least not for 2 full weeks), but Italy is beautiful with great food and drinks. My brother and sister-in-law went to Italy and did a food/wine tour through the country.

But California is really beautiful. Went last February and lucked out on weather. Drove up the coast -- it was a mix of every I could ask for in a trip. Got the city in San Fran, the hiking north of San Fran, the wine and food of Nappa Valley, the beaches along the coast. Then got in a few sporting events too.

Ya California seems like a good spot as well. It's been her dream to get in the studio audience for the Price is Right too  although I have no idea how tickets for that would work.

Maybe there for a week, then head to somewhere like Thailand or Vietnam or something for a week before returning home.

Ticketmaster is such a ****ing ******** joke.

I was on an hour early for the Tragically Hip presale, I sign in the moment it is available and use the "find seats for me" feature they always force you to use.

Not ONCE did i get any available seats, looks like the presale is sold out. **** this garbage.
