Isn't the C-Train like 30 years old?

Makes sense.

There are new ones though. I want to say the newest are about 5 years old. Some have an 88 Olympics sticker though

These are the new ones

Hey Sask, speaking of Calgary, I started looking at housing prices there because my wife applied for a few jobs in the area, and I have to say...

Is the Southwest of the city a bad area? Because that was the only place where housing prices seemed even somewhat in line with reality.

SW isn't too bad. NE is really the biggest trouble spot (Forest Lawn in particular). Is there any specific area you were looking at?

Over near Tsuu T'Ina reserve. Like, near the west end of Anderson Rd SW.

Yeah, those places are alright. The places on the south side of Fishcreek are in general a little better but also a little more expensive. I know a little more about the places on the south side too. I am in Sundance if that is relevant at all. What ages are your kids?

8 & 6.

I mean, this is SUPER early... she just applied for the jobs at this point, so it's early to be house shopping, haha.

Also: one of the jobs was in Airdrie, so there's that.

Airdrie gets a lot of bad weather. My cousins family wants to move away because they have had property damage the last couple years. There are a handful of elementary, junior high, and high schools in my area. Not sure about Canyon Meadows, although the high school in that area is probably better.

Yeah, Airdrie is a weird place.

My wife has family in Bragg Creek, and we're up there whenever we're in Calgary, so I imagine the weather is fairly similar?

So on the super-off chance we move to Airdrie, your suggestion is to make sure we have a nice big garage or a double carport.

OK, gotcha.

If you're planning on buying in/around Calgary... I would wait a year. Now is not the right time to invest in a mortgage.

Well, RIGHT NOW I agree, it's definitely the worst time. Depends on how oil prices rebound, I suppose... Even in a best case scenario, we wouldn't be leaving Indonesia until like October, plus the % chance of us ending up in the GCA is like 7%, so there is plenty of time to plan all that out.

Though I did just remember that my wife's family does own some land in Bragg Creek... so maybe we could just build a house up out there? That would mean commuting in from Bragg to Calgary (or Airdire) though, not sure how old that would get. That being said, my wife currently commutes 4 1/2 hours a day, so it can't possibly get any worse.

Not gonna lie, I REALLY REALLY want to build a shipping container house, so maybe that Bragg Creek option is looking better and better, haha.

That would be my dream house if I could make one not out in the country. Would never want to live in the country. I need good internet and I hate night time in the country.

A small, cheap, and efficient but really nice house with a wood burning stove. Perfect.

Beer suggestions? I wanna broaden my horizons beyond molson canadian.

You could go try some of your namesake.

Off the top of my head for Ontario crafts, try from any of these breweries... Beau's, Great Lakes, Wellington County, Waterloo Brewing (formerly Brick).
Or the macro micros like Creemore, Keiths, and so on.
Also for some random imports, Innes&Gunn (not the rum finish though), Guinness, Weihenstephaner.
