In fairness to Fox, I believe they are talking about surgeries, which, if you are rich enough and have excellent health insurance you can get rather quickly. As for wait times where I am in the US the wait for ER treatment is crazy long as well (at least from what I have experienced. I had a senior family member need surgery in Canada and he got it within 3 months. This was over in Alberta, with the higher pop in ON, I can imagine it would be a little longer.

It was just a tongue in cheek comment is all. And please never say in fairness to fox, it makes me want to puke.

Sorry I turn stuff way too political it's a bad habit.

ha ha yea, i figured. I only say "in fairness to fox" because IMO they are the most honest in their intentions about how they want the news to be portrayed. Everyone knows about their conservative "anti-dem" agenda, but they are pretty upfront about it even though they try and be 'fair and balanced'. It is other news stations and media commentators that profess open-mindedness when they really all have their own agenda's that surprises me. News has become so polarized it is hard to find an unbiased news outlet nowadays eh.

I still laugh at the moon landing thing. How the hell do they think something that big could've been faked....and with no leaks? Not to mention, someone with a good enough telescope can find the flag on the moon.

GMO food is a little scary. I don't believe it's bad heathwise for eating, but I don't like the evolutionary concerns. Like pesticides, we're forcing bugs, viruses, and the environment in general to evolve at a much faster rate from all our tinkering. The scary thing is, humans and our medical science evolves slowly, while insects and viruses evolve much faster. Last thing we need are to suddenly find super locusts that are immune to GMO mutations and pesticides, or super viruses that laugh at our medicine. [Insert b-movie scenario here.]

GMOs contaminate forever, and can if found to be seriously harmful in the future it would already be too late. Their seeds cross pollinate and can pollute "organic" crops. If a terrible strain of genetically modified plant began to cross pollinate it would be really difficult to stop. There have been GMO crops found growing wild because of this. It's purging different animals and insects away from these plants.

Mixing two unrelated species can cause a lot of crazy side effects. Creation of genetically modified foods can cause nutritional deficiencies, toxins, allergens, and carcinogenics.

Eating organic is better for the environment, and for you. Also, the difference in taste is pretty astounding. I don't really like dumping chemicals into my body, and that's really what a genetically modified plant is. Chemicals.

There are a lot of other reasons, but I'm too lazy to type out. The only benefits I can think of for GMO foods are cost, growth, and preservation.

I'm also not an expert, and don't want to pretend to be. I don't not eat GMO foods, I just don't think they're very good for us. I've cut back a lot on anything genetically modified, but I've also cut processed foods and most meats out of my diet over the last year. Just trying to be healthier.

Genetic modification in itself is a technique, it's not a good or evil thing per se. The problem is that people applying the technique are massive dbags like Monsanto.

This just isn't true. Organic crops are more prone to failure and at best produce smaller yields due to not using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Thus it takes more land to produce equal volumes of crops, which is not good for the environment at all. There is a reason people use chemical fertilizers and pesticides, they work.

GMOs aren't chemicals, they're still plants that have been modified at a base level. Chemical fertilizer is still fertilizer, chemicals are natural, simply more dense and specific compounds that plants use to grow into a normal nutrient rich piece of plant matter fit for human consumption. INstead of lobbing a bucket full of horse crap on the dirt, they dump the chemicals from within that horse **** that the plants need.

Organic fruits and vegetables don't taste different to me at all, and I've seen plenty of blind taste tests where people couldn't tell the difference, or blindly picked what was mislabeled as organic. There is also no clear evidence that organically produced plants contain more nutrients than regular plants, more research is needed and finding unbiased funding for such studies is quite difficult.

The big problem I have with the GMOs is that science has gone too far in some of the plants. I can't remember exactly which plant it is, but there is one plant out there where they took the DNA from an animal (a frog iirc), and put it into one of their plants. That, to be, is going too far. Keep animal and plant DNA separate.

And since they don't specifically label GMO foods (especially in canned or frozen foods), I have no idea if I've eaten any or not, so that feels a bit icky, as well. I have no problem trying it, provided I know what I'm eating. Mystery food is no fun.

Drought resistant crops is pretty ****ing badass

And would save millions of lives.

The biggest risk of super crops, as far as i understand, is that some kinda super bug will come along and decimate it like what happened to bananas, so if everyone in some poor country is planting one kind of super corn . . . well bad **** might happen.

Key word being might. If that doesn't happen, farmers will make more money, people will be able to buy food for cheaper .. . good stuff and lots of it.

Arguing about organic food is such a first world problem. In the grand scheme of things, GMOs are such a good thing.

Hello Sens fans,

I'm a student, apartment hunting in the Ottawa area, and was looking for some input on areas/apartment builds that I am considering.

An apartment building called "The Phoenix" Near Westgate Shopping Centre

A spot south of Carleton University called "Norberry Residences"

And Centre Town Place In Downtown.

Anybody have any input/stories/avoid this place!,etc type things to offer? I'm not from the area so I don't really have the option of going out and checking the place out, though I do have friends there that could check the place out for me if required.

Thanks guys

If what you're eating wasn't GMO I'm sure it would be mentioned on a label...

Which school are you going to? :)

If its Algonquin the phoenix isn't a bad location, i dont think its too hard to bus there. If you're driving its close. Its a plain apartment building, haven't heard any complaints from the one person I know who lives there.

There isn't that much at westgate, but enough to fit your needs. There's a grocery store close by as well.

There are a few notorious places. The towers on Bell St in centertown could be the worst apartments in the city.

ANother one I think is called meadowbrook place, its a three pronged tower like the old school risk pieces across the street from the college, supposed to be a rather ****** place. Ummm there is another notorious building on Donald St in Vanier, but thats in the other side of the city.

There are a few decent places a bit further down baseline, maybe a 5 minute busride to algonquin, then u can take the 95 straight downtown.

Forest Ridge might be worth looking into, 1 bedroom units for around 850 i think. Nice enough apartments for over a grand. THere are also a couple of towers near baseline and pinecrest that are nice, but im not sure about the cost.
