My friend and co-driver was an accomplished sim racer. He used to drift a 240 that we built. Thing is he also has his SuperLicense and raced F2000 cars as well... He actually just texted me today saying he got a VR headset and is getting back into Assetto Corsa. You can be our third, how about that?!

And heck no to the RWD conversion! At 600-700 whp I''ll need my 2500 lb car to be putting down that power to all 4 corners. That kind of ratio would be way too much to handle on the hill climb and tighter circuits we will run at, at least for this amateur :)

If it appeases you the 2JZ engine will one day go in a RWD car and will be pushing 800whp. Likely just for straight line racing though.
Curious if he ever did iRacing. Always looking for guys to run with. It's not a big thing in my social group!

I wasn't really suggesting that I want a garden.

I want a machine that replicates a cow's stomach and makes all of the inedible cellulose heavy plants edible to humans.

A device that could potentially end world hunger, since it would vastly increase the food supply by allowing humans to get our energy requirements from raked tree leaves, grass clippings, sawdust, hay, ferns, etc. The stuff that grows everywhere without any need for farming. The stuff that I put into huge brown bags for the city to haul away.

In theory, that stuff we throw away is all huge quantities of food. We just can't digest it, so we don't see it like that. Instead we're limited to a small subset of the world's plants that can be directly processed by our human stomachs. Doesn't have to be that way. And those edible plants generally consume a ton of energy, water and human labour to be cultivated.

So I'm suggesting the world needs a device that can transform those waste products into edible food. Cow stomachs are nature's version of that device. And since they already exists in nature, we know it's possible to build one that uses less energy than it produces.

And then one day we'll figure out another device that can efficiently replicate photosynthesis and we'll cut out the grass as a middleman too.

Since that's all food is....just a means of converting solar energy and some basic raw materials into the chemical energy our bodies run on.

But it's an insanely inefficient way to do it when you have to go from sun to grass to a cow to a truck to a processing facility to a steak to a truck to a supermarket to my car to my stove to my mouth.

One day we'll just be able to mix sun and some raw materials together in a machine and get directly consumable food energy out the other end.

That may sound like science fiction but there's really no reason to believe it's not possible.
Setting aside the digestion issues, there's very little nutritional benefit from grass, sawdust, hay, ferns, etc. Scientists can easily harvest and extract any nutrients from these sources, quite efficiently, but the problem is there's just not enough benefit to do it. You'd have to process 1kg of grass to produce 20g of protein but you'd still be missing many, many vital nutrients that are needed as part of your daily diet and you'd get 46g of fiber from the same qty, which is way above recommended daily intake. These aren't food sources that have been pursued because they're just not worth pursuing. There's no machine to be invented that will help turn these into beneficial food sources, without genetically modifying them and widely replanting.

So I let my mom take my LEGO into her school to use as a classroom aid so when the school had ‘whatever days’ there was a LEGO club to keep kids entertained.

And last year my mom had to take a leave for the last half of the year. Upon cleaning her room the following summer we found most of my LEGO was missing. Like someone had rebuilt entire sets piece by piece and taken them.

Now we’ve contacted school admin but they’re pretty useless. Do I go over their heads and contact the RCMP? It turns out my LEGO was worth a lot of money.

I don’t really want it back but I’d like it back for the kids. But I’m worried a kid took it and could get charged with theft. Catch 22.
Sorry to say but it's on you.

I know. She kept it in a locked cabinet that only her (or her sub) and the principal had access too. And although her classroom door is under camera and the school has a ‘no backpack’ policy inside the classroom I know even if I tried my hardest, nothing would happen.

Small town stuff.

If you have LEGO from Canada in the the 90’s holy cow! Is that pricey. Fort Legoredo alone is almost $2000.

I had all of Wild West, most of Time Cruisers and Egypt, anything City to do with cars and boats, Castle, Pirates, Space Invaders minus the monorail and evil base and that deep sea gem mining stuff. I’d buy it all back on eBay for the kids but like, a casually priced it out and it’s a solid 6-10 grand.

Program went great under my mom’s guidance. Made diorama’s that got put behind glass cabinets for the whole school to see.

Behind you, look out
Those prices are for sealed complete sets.
Just the loose parts and minifigs you are looking at $250 ish.

You can go on Bricklink and find better deals than on Ebay

Fort Legoredo could be rebuilt for about $300 that way but usually goes for double. I am missing like 30 sets or more unfortunately. I have almost all the instructions.

To my knowledge a lot of the sets from the 90’s and early 2000’s contained limited minting pieces that can not be purchased again through the LEGO Store or LEGO Land.

I still have all my Star Wars LEGO but honestly I’d rather it be the other way around. I had sets from the 70’s hahaha. How foolish I was.

Just double checked on eBay again haha to make sure my numbers were accurate.

I only had sets from the 70s cause that's when I was a kid playing with them. :p: Unfortunately all lost in various moves. I remember fondly the epic Lego car battles against my older cousins, using the electric motor block.

I'm amazed people have lego in sets. As a kid, I'd build the set in quesiton, play with it for an hour or two, then take it apart and add it to my box of legos. Then frankenstein together anything and everything to build whatever.

I can't imagine trying to separate the lego pieces into sets afterwards.

Maybe just assume that some kids took the sets home to play with. Stealing isn’t great, but if a kid is further enjoying the sets it would probably sit better than assuming that an adult stole them for resale.

For most adults, stealing Lego sets to rebuild and sell for a few hundred bucks generally isn’t worth the work, or the consequences of getting caught!!

I am uncertain why I am sharing this but once my wife and I had nice seats given to us by some company for Leafs vs. Capitals in Toronto.

1st intermission some employee (badge out, introduced himself) told us we had to go back to our assigned seats because they were "NHL seats". We were in our assigned seats and I showed him the tickets. He debated the point despite being told he was wrong. After 2 minutes of us not moving he called security, who we showed the tickets to and they just shrugged. and then left

He told us we could stay but that if Ovechkin's mom showed up, then we would have to move - then left.

Surprise she never came.

I still have no clue what was up with that - was it a prank from someone? is MLSE incompetent? was Ovechkin's mom really in Toronto?

Another reason I hate the Leafs.

Thought I'd share in the lounge. enjoy the offseason boys and girls!

Most common parts are still in production. Some have stopped being made because they came up with a better design, such as hinge pieces. There is a common problem with brown pieces "technical colour name is reddish brown" that would break really easily, so they changed he formula.

The pieces that will cost you the most will be fabric pieces, such as sails or the cloth flags. You might run into issues with printed pieces too.

If you use bricklink you are saving time if you buy completed sets. You can buy the pieces individually from sellers around the world, but you end up paying for a lot of shipping charges.

I have completed a lot of retired sets by piecemealing it out.

Anyone here build, race or are generally into cars at the hands on level?

I currently have a few projects going on (in various states):

1972 BMW 2002 (e10) widebody with Honda S2000 engine, future drift / hill climb car

2009 Subaru STi hatch widebody, lightly modified daily driver

Toyota 2JZ engine, stripped down and will be rebuilt with stroker kit

2009 Subaru Sti hatch, fully stripped and caged, future GT racer with built EJ22 long block, PPG Sequetial transmission, Motec ECU, bypass antilag, big turbo, dry sump oiling... Car is just about prep'd and engine ready to be dropped in. Hope to be track ready in 2024. Targeting Global Time Attack and GT racing.

The last one is the primary focus with the BMW being a project that I might never finish. The 2JZ engine I'll just have on the shelf for a future project, ideally a muscle car restomod.

I always wanted to build cars and race but never did so in the last 5 years I've tried to make up for lost time but with family and no real shop things are very slow going...
Holy smokes. That is quite the list!

I did in my younger years, I always modified my cars and had some real impressive sleeper cars that were monsters. As I got older, I just went with really fast cars, with a significant amount of setup/mods as you would expect in cars like AMGs. I really miss my second C63, a 507 from 2014 (had a 2011 as well), the last hurrah of the true German SuperSedan. Should have found a way to keep that one!

I used to take that to Calabogie and was fun up there, but the tires , especially the rears, woudl disintegrate after 6000kilometers because of the exagerrated toe/camber setup of those cars. Plus my right foot!

I have a 2016 Corvette Z06, manual, that is completely stock. And it still scares me, so I am good with not modding it, although I might do something with the brakes, finding better pads that don't produce so much frigging brake dust as the brembos do.

I would lower cars, sometimes shocks as well, but egenrally it was engine . exhaust and computer mods.

I do my own mechanics on my vehicles, minus wheel balancing and anything a/c related. I have a 2009 Touareg TDI and 2002 S8 to keep me quite busy there... Nothing huge so far, but did the timing belt and associated components on the S8, will need to do the timing chain tensioners this winter.

I haven't been into the tuning scene since I parted out my 1992 Talon TSi AWD, but that was a lot of fun - I had tuning software that could set anti-lag at whichever RPM you choose. Couple that with a short wastegate dump and it was obnoxiously loud and could spin all tires on a launch. :)
Those driveshafts tho on those Talons! Incredible cars in the day, and many of my friends had the driveshafts snap after a lot of sick launches

pokémon cards are always worth something lll. always have been.

From ‘04 to ‘09 they were worthless.

I had 149 of the 151 original cards. Went to get them appraised by my cards guy in ’07 when I was moving and he brought out a binder and a garbage can. Inside the binder was like 3000 Charizards or something and he looked me dead in the eyes and said “I’m sorry, they’re worthless. I’d advise you to throw them away as it’s not worth your time to save the card sleeves.”

So I donated it to Salvation Army instead.

All this meat talk is making me hungry.

That said, I would really like to be able to eat the grass clippings when I mow my lawn. Free greens. And think how much better life would be if we all just walked around on free food under our feet everywhere? The calories are right there waiting for us, our lame evolution just doesn't let us get them.

Somebody invent me a clean, cheap mechanical digester that can break down cellulose but isn't a cow. A cow's stomach can digest this stuff, so build me a simple machine based on their stomachs that can too. No more of this sun -> grass-> cow -> me. Time to cut out the middle man...er, cow.

Build that machine and you may have just ended world hunger.
Italians grew up eating dendelion salad. Bitter, but great with red wine vinegar and olive oil.

I thought they were, but the real crazy money goes to the misprints.. so I'm hoping the original cards go up in value because mine aren't that special.
if they’re first set and have the first edition symbol (many do) and you get them graded each one in that set is worth over 500 bucks basically.

a complete original set goes for 3500-4 grand right now.

that’s ungraded. and NON first edition.

first set sealed boxes are utterly insane. cost more than any of our cars.
