The Draft this year is deep... Maybe better that last year's with the exception of the top 2 picks from last year.

The recipe to mediocrity is being mediocre. Mediocre finish, mediocre draft position, less than the top end talent being drafted. and on it goes.

We have a lot of holes. Gaping holes. There is no quick fix thru trades. Even if we got a talent like Drouin we would have to give up some strength we have now to get him. I hate being mediocre and settling for that. To change that you need to be bad for a couple of years. The Hawks were brutal then they got Keith, Kane, Toews in the draft. How did Pittsburgh get Crosby and Malkin. How did Washington get Ovi.
Through a combination of trades and high draft picks we can change it too. Staying in Neutral isn't going to get it done... rant  lol

The Hawks also went out and got some effective veteran players to surround their young players and mentor them.

And while Pittsburgh and Washington did get Ovi and Sid, they haven't achieved much.

We have the best dman in the NHL in his prime. The time to be great is now, not in five years.

Have you ever seen 4 guys bunch up like that at the blue line trying to defend on the pk. They totally gave up both side boards and didn't challenge to stop the entry up the middle they just kept backing up until the puck was in their zone and then it was an easy pass to a guy behind them. Much too easy and Andy wasn't up to the challenge either.

Cameron doesn't know how to leave well enough alone. The 3rd line was fine with Pageau, Lazar and MacCormick but no Cameron has to play coach and puts Smith there ruining the line.

Cameron is trying to act like a head coach but he doesn't know what he is doing.

The Hawks did a lot of things right to turn it around.
Hey I would like it if we could acquire players now too. I just do see how we get over the hump from where we are to being a contender other than really rebuilding.
The Pens did win a cup.
The Caps could be one of the best teams right now.

Have you not been following this team? 16 goals in 11 games.

1 Dman doesn't fix whats wrong. It helps but we are stillfull of holes.

Well if it helps bring it on board. One peice at a time. I don't get people that say "well don't do that cuz it doesn't solve all our issues". What does that matter. If it helps. If it's an upgrade. It means it helps us win. Or not lose. Or not lose by so much. One piece at a. Time.

It's going to take a lot of creativity, big balls and ownership being ok with spending more than they would like to.

And even then, it could all fail, but the current path is going nowhere, that much is quite evident.

Also, just to shake their top players up a bit, they should tell anyone on the top 2 lines that they are only allowed 1 pass after entering the o-zone before shooting. Anyone who makes a second pass and they don't score gets benched for 2 shifts. If he does it again it's 4 shifts and so on! These guys pass up too many chances. It's not just one guy it's all of their top 6 who do it!

I didn't think they played that badly. That penalty with 5 minutes to go was the back breaker. However, our top line is struggling. It is obvious to me that both Ryan and Turris are still playing hurt. Stone needs to take charge a bit more, he needs to stop passing the puck so often.

The defense didn't look too bad to be honest. The bottom half of the D are doing what they can within their respective limitations.

They generated next to no offense at 5-on-5

This was a very bad game and while it's true the penalty was the back breaker, it doesn't change the fact that this team did mostly nothing for most of the game

Considering the standings and how we got obliterated last game, this kind of effort is concerning: the team doesn't believe in itself and management has basically told them "you only get help if you don't suck"

Yeah we aren't scoring, it's a problem, nobody would disagree with that, but that appears to be more of a slump than the level of production we should expect.

Now A #2 or 3 D would significantly help this team I believe, prevent goals by actually playing the man appropriately. - and allow the team to breakout properly when the puck is on a players stick who isn't Karlsson or Methot.

I maintain that this team's biggest need is an impact player than is left handed

On d would be nice but even someone who can be a 60 point winger for our top 6 would be amazing

Way too many righties on this team: it's one of the reasons we are so predictable, bad at cycling and have such a hard time getting to the middle of the ice 5-on-5

listening to Cameron talking about how we produced offense early in the season compared to now is discouraging, essentially, easier to score early in the season and we took advantage of that

Sounds like a riff off of Maclean's "maybe we don't have the right players"

That's a direct knock on the management team incl. BM who said they have a team to make the playoffs... it wouldn't go over well

We all know it's true and I can't fault the coaching staff for being bitter about not being given any real, effective help when it's been clear the ship has been sinking for over a month.

I think it's more about getting ownership to understand that if they want the team to perform, they are going to need to bite the bullet and spend more than they would like.

Couldn't watch the game but watching the highlights was painful. Andy was very weak, but there were many defensive gaffes and just an overall lack of awareness all around. EK seemed a bit nonchalant as well, and our top-6 has gone cold.

Everything seems to be going wrong right now. I don't see how this can keep up much longer without a big change. No one will want to pay to watch this perpetual mediocrity(and that's being generous).
