It will be interesting to see if anything leaks out after his contract expires. I wonder if he pissed someone off in the Canucks brass.
Though, Green really doesn't seem to fancy pure skill unless they are elite. Goldobin was another guy that was pretty much cut off. Green didn't seem to like Shinkaruk and Jensen down in Utica either.
Got to disagree with you here. He played Shinkaruk in 74 of the Comets 76 regular season games his first season when he was basically worthless the first half due to conditioning and trying to rehab his hip by playing games. Green asked the fan base to be patient until Hunter caught up. He would be exciting.
Hunter would catch fire in the last 3rd of the season recording the majority of his 31 points in that span. He then played in all 23 games of the Comets 2015 playoff run.
The following season Shinkaruk was the Comets top figure on the first line. He led the Comets in both goals and points when out of the blue and a shock to the fan base he was traded in February. At the end of the Comets seasonm Hunter Shinkaruk still led the team in goals. Green did nothing to neglect or set Shinkaruk aside.
As to Jensen, Green turned him into a very solid 2-way hockey player. On that 2015 playoff team, Jensen rode the right wing with Grenier and Cal O'Reilly. All that line did was record the most points of any line on the team. O'Reilly was first in scoring and Grenier and Baertschi tied for 2nd. Jensen picked up 10 points in 18 GP missing 3 with a booboo. The discrepancy in points occurred because O'Reilly and Grenier shared PP1 spots with Baertschi and Conacher. Jensen was on the 2nd unit that wasn't all that successful.
He went back to being Jensen for Jensen with Hartford and his numbers went up. When the Rangers put him on the ice they got the same Jensen that caused Vancouver to quit on him. He went back to Europe.
Grenier is over there as is Conacher. Baertschi will be there next season.
O'Reilly continues to tour the AHL for a nice annual salary while putting up near PPG seasons. If you can score and he's your center, you will get tape to tape passes game after game and both of you will roll up the points. He is an AHL set up man extraordinaire.
