I noticed the attendance last night was 18358, which is uncharacteristically high this season(especially considering the firesale that happened over the past week). Was it the McDavid effect? Or that we were playing a Canadian team? Or a bit of both?

How many Oiler fans were in the stands last night?

Clearly both.

McDavid effect most prominent. Watch the attendance crater for the next game.

Took my son to the Jan 5 game (my first in a few years) and I couldn't believe how many empty seats there were in our section. Parking lot post game was still a joke though.

Without even getting into how dumb using a percentage is. ESPN is ass, and they are using 19,000+ as the sens capacity if they are getting 75.6%.
Go on. I'd love to hear your reasoning.

Who cares about percentage, they are 5th last in the league though. Suck it Eugene.

It's one way to look at it.

With every rink having a different capacity, it's a more accurate representation of how full the building is on a nightly basis in my opinion. Now if your goal is to see how many people come through the doors then yes using pct is pointless but is using avg attendance number fair when comparing to let's say the Islanders or Jets who have significantly smaller venues? Winnipeg is bottom 7 in attendance numbers, but they are top 5 in avg attendance pct.

If the numbers ESPN are using are inaccurate, then that's another story.

Becuase selling 12000 in a 19000 seat stadium is no different then selling 12000 in a 15000 seat stadium. It's 12000 regardless of their respective capacities.

That's just an overly simplistic way of looking at it. You're just throwing the arena capacity, ticket availability or market size variables out the window. You don't think having 15k avg attendance in a small market would be more impressive, or understandable if you will, than 15k in market that is literally double the size?

Either way, it's a different way to look at it. Not dumb, like you implied.

No it’s definitely dumb. Especially when you can’t properly calculate the percentage.

Paid attendance is all that matters towards the bottom line.

The blue Jays only had about 10,000 for their Monday night game. They Dorioned their roster and this is the fan reaction. This is supposed to be something that can only happen in Ottawa according to some people here. Evidently, its not.

Always wondered how the Jays got away with generally spending so little considering their funding and base etc...Will be interesting to see if they feel the media heat, or if that is only reserved for non Toronto based sports franchises.

The funny thing is that the Blue Jays have an owner with very deep pockets and yet they won't dish out the cash to put even a respectable team on the field.

They are dishing the money out.....close to 50 million to players who aren't playing for them anymore!
