Simple:
Connor Murphy (RD) for Sens 1st (top 10 protected) + Zaitsev

Chabot Murphy
Sanderson Zub
Holden Hamonic

Next summer add an offensive D into the mix (preferably Karlsson double salary retention)

Chabot Karlsson
Sanderson Zub
--------- Murphy
Holden/Hamonic

Montreal has plenty of room on D, Guhle with a nasty knee injury recently.

Don't think the Habs need the cap space next year anyways.

A first is needed for sure for a year and a half of Zaitsev at that cap hit. Top 10 protected. The Monahan deal basically (6 millions for a year).

Probably other bad teams like Anaheim/Chicago/Columbus/Detroit could accept to get Zaitsev for that mid/late 1st.

I think Ottawa is in a rush to dump Zaitsev to make room for Chychrun.

Don’t see Ottawa moving a first to unload Zaitsev

My guess is they have to dump his contract fast in order to make room for Chychrun.

Other teams are probably interested so they need to make that happen soon

I don't think a team take that contract right now for under a mid 1st value.

It solves the problem of his no trade clause, not the problem of the value it takes to move on from him.

It clearly doesn't solve whichever problem the Senators want to solve or else they would do that instead of offering up a pick or prospect to move him, is the point.

Are they wanting to shed his contract fully, or just him ?

Drouin

For

Zaitsev
2023 2nd
Sokolov.

Drouin is on an expiring contract, so Arizona might take him on in a deal for Chychrun and it doesn't take any of Ottawa's more valuable pieces away from a possibly Chychrun trade.

if some one hopes sens trade first ... pls dont watch no more nhl..

4.5 1 year contract max cost is second round pick ... normal cost is 3-4 round or maybe one prospect ( not bright future)

It is one year and a half, not one year. If they want Chychrun, they need to act now, not this summer.

Unless it’s a larger deal to bring in a legit top 4 D who can play the right side there is zero chance the Sens will trade their 1st in order to simply dump Zaitsev.

I mean honestly people.
Ever heard about that Chychrun guy?

My guess is Ottawa wants to show DeBrincat they are serious about contending in order to get him to sign long term. The only way to do that is to get a top 4 D for that defense.

Step 1. You dump Zaitsev for the cheapest possible (I think a 1st will be needed, but I could be wrong).
Step 2. You get Chychrun that is already signed for cheap for 2 mores years for futures (1st, 2nd, Boucher, Branstrom/other roster player)
Step 3. You sign DeBrincat long term.

Now you show to all the suitors that want to buy the team that it is competitive and ready to contend.

You say it’s your guess that Ottawa needs to move Zaitsev right away to add Chychrun.

Instead of guessing, why wouldn’t you just look it up and see that Ottawa absolutely can add Chychrun without dumping Zaitsev?

Could it be that it’s not a “guess” as much as it is a “desire”?

Sens are not a cap team.

And DeBrincat will cost a lot more than 6.5 millions next year. Shane Pinto off ELC as well. Zaitsev must go to get Chychrun AND keep DeBrincat, even if they become 100% a cap team.

I think a 2nd will get rid of Zaitsev contract.
A 1st and 2nd , [ The one they were going to waste ] and Zaitsev could return a player/prospect they have an eye on.

The value is the issue, not the no trade clause.

Zaitsev would not enact his right to veto to one of the ten teams he has in favour of going to the AHL.

The no movement clause has nothing to do with his anchor of a contract and our inability to find a reasonable trade value wise.

If we were willing to send the other team 10 first round picks, and that team was on his list, there would be no issue.

It’s the picks, not the no trade clause.

Your entire 2nd paragraph is, by definition, not at all "right away".

Sens were prepared to be a cap team, the mid-20s owners are about to make an insane amount of money, they are not holding us up from adding Chychrun just because Zaitsev and his $1.5m owed this season.

You formed a conclusion and are now trying to justify it by working backwards. No need to die on the hill.
