Post-Game Talk: Senators @ Rangers

It makes plenty of sense. For example, look at how Colorado was playing against the Hawks a few days ago (well, to start the game, at least). They were slowing them down, and frustrating them. That's what Tortorella should have been getting his team to do here. Clog up the neutral zone a bit more, and also get his players to put more pressure on the Senators when they have the puck in the Rangers' zone. None of this straight-up collapsing BS, they gave the Senators' defense way too much time and way too many options.

I agree. Too much run and gun back and forth and leaving everything wide open left us with absolutely nothing left in the tank by the end of the game. It was painful to watch the last 10 minutes. And I'm being generous.

Seems to be the story every time we play Ottawa. The whole game turned around when he decided to start the 4th line, with Bickel no less, on a defensive zone faceoff. They couldn't get posession, Bickel turned it over in the NZ, and Ottawa proceeded to dominate us for the rest of the game. Also, the D-zone structure needed adjusting. Ottawa exploited it perfectly.

TORTS! YOU CAN'T PLAY THE SAME WAY EVERY SECOND OF EVERY GAME! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!

EDIT: This loss has really gotten to me...the frustrations I have with this team were magnified and put on display tonight.

You have to realize what kind of coach you have.

Tortorella is not a tactician. He is a motivator. Most of the posters on here are better at line combos and adapting strategies during the game.

Torts screams, he yells, he gives a pat on the pack, and uses psychology, to extract the maximum effort and ability of each player.

You can't expect a grinder with stone hands to get 40 goals, and you can't expect a motivational coach to be a tactition.

It's a game that we headed into being tired and at a disadvantage against a speedy transition team with young legs and quick players. There were things that we could have done to put ourselves in a better position and not much was done.
 
For the people saying "it was 3 games in 4 nights" - you have a valid point. The team was bound to be tired. But this was a winnable game! It was tied late in the 3rd period! The Sens were taking advantage of the Rangers' system, and our stubborn coach wouldn't change anything. It's the same story nearly every time we play this team, and I'm sick and tired of losing to a clearly inferior team in the manner that we did (no disrespect to the Senators, they're a hungry, hard-working team - but, in a 2-2 game, and without Spezza/Karlsson, the Rangers should have been able to come out on top).

If a coach isn't a tactician then fire that coach because I can put on a dress and go cheer and motivate the **** out of the team.

Torts rolling 1.5 lines certainly didn't help.
 
All the harlem shakes in the world couldn't save you guys tonight. Good Game though.

Last game was fine because we controlled the play against the FSs and we needed to break through with a goal.

Tonight it was about slowing the game down. When the game is unfolding and we're being dominated and outplayed, the message should have been to just slow the play down and not even bother with creating chances unless we gain possession in their zone.
 
Tough game. Some bad bounces and tired bodies against a well rested team. Poorly coached by Torts. Biron needed this start and breaking up our best line to put Richards between Nash
and Hags is inexcusable, IMO.
 
Sens fan here in peace- was curious if anyone watching the game on tsn knew the song that was played when the showed the clip of Biron laughing at silfverberg after he took a spill by the rangers bench, thanks in advance and good game tonight.
 
Torts was "staying with it". When it works he looks like a genius, when it doesn't he looks like an idiot.
 
Every time against the senators. It's the same **** story. Late goal, late goal, late goal. twice in the playoffs, twice in the regular season, more in the years past with 2 minutes left in a tied game and they had a different ****ing coach! How the **** does that work?
