Seems like he should've been fired before all this crap came out in the last week. Like really if the league wouldn't have taken a pick away from them, he would've been safe? Doubt it.

How do fans feel about losing the 1st round pick now?

To be honest, if Chiarelli takes over I would close all bridges around Ottawa. A fanbase can only take so much torment.
Out of the loop, how did they lose a pick?

It seems to me that Ottawa didn’t keep pace with Detroit or Buffalo’s rebuild. The bets he made to help the team be more competitive sooner haven’t really worked out.

The die was probably cast the moment ownership changed.

Drafted well. If the Senators have success in the future, his finger prints will be on that. That said, that much of the trades and professional scouting were abysmal, to the point where it was genuinely baffling how he could be so good at one evaluation, and so stunningly bad at another. Whatever one thinks of the fairness or unfairness of losing the first rounder, it was an own goal and not having his own shit in order. All in all, the right move, and good (for the organization anyways) that there's now ownership with confidence, finances, and resources to make moves when they're needed.
