I'd be ok not seeing Palat, Mercer, Tatar, and Bastian ever again.

Palat at least has had good stretches this season. The other three though, yeah... replaceable with just about anyone else in the league at this point.

It's just the same old circular arguments. They've had one season where they've looked good consistently.

They didn't look good consistently in that season. They had a stretch where they were 1-7-1. So they've never had that.

Citing last year - same old excuses. They looked like middling AF before the injuries hit. I'll grant you they had bad coaching but they don't have bad coaching this year and if you take the whole season into account at this point they are still middling AF. Now we are using illness as an excuse, as if every f***ing guy is puking between periods. It's always some rationale for why the results don't ever seem to match the hype.

Middling AF. The team is 13th in PTS% despite being 2-6 in the fake portion of hockey that is played in the regular season. They are currently 4th in the conference in regulation point percentage. Middling AF.

The team is very, very clearly gassed. You pretend to have never seen an NHL season before every year. Now, do they have the talent to get through this sort of period while still pulling out a .500 stretch - no, they do not, as we're learning now. But almost every team has a stretch like this. Great teams have more depth and/or better goaltending to see them through, or maybe they get some bounces that pave over it.

I'm not trying to be "right" in these arguments. I'm just venting. I don't need to be told at every turn that my feelings about this team aren't valid because you take faith in excuses and spreadsheets.

Your feelings are perfectly valid, they are feelings. It is when you try to twist them into some sort of argument where the problem comes in.

The concept of fatigue insults your intelligence? Pretty basic stuff and part of an 82 game season, especially one where your best defenseman is a 21 year old. Maybe you have a better explanation for the trend Luke’s xGs are following? Maybe he stopped caring?

What kind of logic is this? If them allowing under 20 shots for 3 straight weeks is consistent, then what the hell is this shit show we are seeing which has ALSO lasted 3 weeks?

Outside of those two extremes, the team has looked average, particularly 5v5, has not been able to string more than 3 consecutive wins together, has been shutout numerous times, etc. This is pretty much the definition of inconsistent.

I find it just shocking how selective we are with demanding context. At no point in that 1-7-1 stretch that year did they look like what this team is right now. Not even close. Setting aside that that was 10% of the season and what we're witnessing now accounts for a quarter of the season so far, it's not the record that matters it's how they are playing. But surely you know that because there's no doubt you'd be pointing that out if they were playing well right now and just not getting the results.

Again with this condescending crap. I've followed every goddamn seasons for 30 years. This team hasn't gone a run yet...they had 3 good weeks of defensive play but the other areas of their game weren't outstanding. They have yet to put a good winning streak together, but they have managed to have more than one 4 game losing streak already. I believe they have been shutout more than any other team in the league. There's more to "consistency" than the win-loss record. If you look at the bad streak the 2022 team went on, they didn't look anywhere close to as bad as this. The yo-yo extremes point to inconsistencies.
