Whenever the franchise is sold, for whatever price, and the new owner(s) also have the relocation/arena costs in a few years, to Lebreton Flats….. don’t expect the new owner(s) to also start shovelling tons of cash into the day to day operations of the team/player acquisition…..

What makes you think the franchise is for sale? I've checked FB marketplace and haven't seen anything indicating as such.

I don’t really care which group buys the team, I just hope it’s a group so the team can avoid the issues of being at the whim of one person and likely have access to more financial backing.

Ideal would be a group with local ties like the farm boy guy + a fancy face like Reynolds + deeper pockets from someone else.

I’m curious as to where the negotiations are at with the NCC. There has to be some assurances that the buyer will have access to more Lebreton land in order to make the new arena viable.

I think Bettman, the Senators organization and whomever else is involved is doing a good job of keeping it under wraps. No news seems to be leaking out. Folks (myself included) are dying of curiosity, but it seems like we won't know anything until its pretty much a done deal. I have no idea on a timeline either and under the circumstances, I think it would be just a guess like pretty much everything else.
One thing about Bettman - he moves like a ninja. Everything is done quietly and behind the scenes. I get the sense that if you are someone who likes to grandstand or leak to the media, you would last about three seconds in his world before being frozen out. Again, back to Balsillie - he tried to elbow his way in and force the NHL's hand, and ended up with nothing.

Evidence indicates that his stature
Merciless like a terrorist hard to capture
The flow, changes like a chameleon
Plays like a friend, and stabs you like a dagger
This technique attacks the immune system
Disguised like a lie paralyzing the victim
You scream, as it enters your bloodstream
Erupts your brain from the pain these thoughts contain
Moving on a ***** with the speed of a centipede
And injure any motherf***ing contender!

So, is Reynolds going to be the face of ownership, or is it going to be Alfie? Or both?

Reynolds has a better shot at being a face of the ownership, because while he doesn't have the financial wherewithal to be a majority owner, he could finance a big enough chunk (i.e. ~10-15%). And he could certainly assemble a group with some big backers.

Alfredsson is more likely to be brought in in a President (like Shanahan in Toronto or Robitaille in LA) type role.

I'm not convinced there was ever any real circumstances where Alfie would be part of an ownership group. He could easily team up with a bidder, but I don't see him being an owner myself.

Just bring in the deepest pockets available. I don't want to see a hint of any penny-pinching from new owners (although I do NOT expect this to be a cap team until we are ready to contend). And we'll need deep pockets...buying the team and building an area has to be somethign close to a $1.5-$2 billion project at this point.

Ya it would be sweet to have him on board. 1000x better than some of the other celebs pitched like Bieber, and I say that as someone that isn't even a fan of his humour and persona these days (Van Wilder and Waiting are classics though). Having him linked to the team would be worth a lot and any ownership group would be stupid not to bring him in if he's serious, it would be like turning down free money.

Good point. This is actually a guy with a cool, respectable reputation. What a shame it would be to have a guy like Bieber being the figure head owner. Blech.
