It does kind of suck the Reynolds group pulled out but there seems like enough blame to go around. The timelines don't seem to make much sense And then Reynolds got publicly announced and then Snoop Dogg and then the Weeknd.

I don't have an issue but I wish it was all a bit more lowkey... it comes across as a bit of a public spectacle and that might turn off some potential bidders who feel like they have less of a chance or don't like the media presence surrounding it.

I'm sure we'll get some decent bids but the deadline for formal bidding can't come soon enough. It has been a bit of a ride. I hope one of the groups has a strong developer presence. I want the downtown arena. It can double as an events center. Ottawa is growing as a city and hopefully we can attract more acts with a downtown arena.

It's like the Trade Rumors forum. Please let the ride end. Lets hit that trade deadline.

I suspect most of the bids are just interested in land development.

Buying the sens is just the cost of admission to butter up the city/NCC into handing over billions in prime condo developments.

Reynolds/Snoop talking up the team and community impacts are just window dressing to help with that.

Other than Melnyk, has any majority partner on a serious bid for the team not been a land developer?

If Reynolds ain't involved that sucks. The best thing about him is that he went and poached smart soccer minds to set his football club up for success, I'd figure he'd be a voice advocating for getting smart hockey minds in.

Ah well, as long as we have a filthy rich owner who doesn't care about spending to the cap i'm good. Just no assholes that have scary skeletons in their closets

Well since the mayor himself said he spoke with some groups including an hour with Reynolds group there is no speculation.

Sure there is. Melnyks could have said OK to speak to the mayor not OK to speak to the NCC or any other members of city council, for example.

The only thing that makes sense is yesterday a Toronto writer wrote an article on the purchase of the Sens and what a bad idea it was. Maybe a plant to lessen the blow?

Several groups spoke to the NCC as well, probably would have been better if you didn’t know, to use google, instead of doubling and tripling down after being informed.

Something we don't know for sure, and posters are entirely dismissing is the fact that the "Neko Sparks Bid" would not result in Neko being the primary owner of the team.

I have a strong inkling those Reuben brothers are running that show in the background and just don't want the publicity in all this.

I don't think it's necessarily being dismissed. The question is why Neko Sparks of all people is serving as the mouthpiece of the bid.

It's not unusual for a consortium to have someone acting as the frontman, but Neko Sparks - a man with seemingly no presence and experience - is an odd choice to say the least. It's a bizarre puzzle.

Apostolopoluos is officially out of the running for the Commanders so he might turn his full attention to the Sens now.

A lot more here: With Monday deadline for bids for Ottawa Senators, the show must go on

The way this is written definitely seems like Andlauer is the frontrunner. He's talked withed Claridge and he seems more team-focused than real estate.

Interesting, this is the first I've seen anyone mention the Reuben connection to Sparks outside of directly referencing Wallace claiming such

"Sparks, who owns a production company called Pixel Lime, intends to enter a bid Monday. He reportedly entered a $925 million bid in the first round and has the backing of British businessmen David and Simon Reuben."

Is Garrioch confirming Wallace's scoop, or is it just lazy reporting where something gets said enough times it just becomes accepted as true...

What’s funny is he must be mad at Roustan, as he never mentions his name, just an owner of a hockey publication.
Even though that group is likely not winning.

I've definitely said my piece on this, but I simply can't wrap my head around the Reuben family, which has enough wealth to get a face-to-face with Jamie Dimon or David Solomon in a days notice, picking complete unknown from LA Neko Sparks, who has a web of sketchy websites, to be the public face of their bid and then hire TAAG (formely known as Elite Accounting, a small firm that specializes in tax returns for realtors and people working in the Ottawa nightlife industry) to find "additional investors".

Garrioch wrote today that the belief is the Malhotra’s of Claridge Homes are partnered with Andlauer. Took long enough for a local developer to slide their way into the process.

That’s been the word for a while. They’ve had discussions but it seemed like Claridge was waiting for whoever looked like the frontrunner.

Damn, I really don’t care who wins the bid but what happened to all the posters who said the Reuben Family wasn’t part of the sparks bid and that it was all fake?

Did you really think the league wouldn’t do their due diligence?

So far the only people who've mentioned the Reuben brothers are Brent Wallace, and today, Garrioch (but with no additional context).

Sparks himself had a vague response to a question saying it was a "mix of money from the US, Canada and the UK".

Considering this website is still up - Sparks Finance Group - I don't buy for a second that it's a legitimate bid. Especially not one backed by a family worth $15B.
