The Blues used the middle of the ice so beautifully in the first period breaking out of the zone. Ottawa adjusted in the second but the Blues checked really nicely the final 40 minutes and pretty much controlled the entire game. Ottawa didn’t even have a great scoring chance from my memory. Don’t tell me coaching doesn’t make a difference. Just a well coached and executed game.

Definitely helps now that the Blues players have been able to get some practices in as well.

Maybe not a "great scoring chance" given that it started with a weird bounce; but let us not forget the telekinetic powers of Binnington to keep that Cousins goal out.

Im less concerned about the result, and more that this team seems to be finding an identity. This is the fastest Blues team i've ever seen. Holloway and Broberg added a lot of speed, but not only that, the team is playing faster. I still think this team lacks the high end talent in a couple roles to really do anything meaningful in the playoffs. But if Dvorsky hits, the vets dont fall off a cliff, and we can trade for a 2B Dman, we are not far off.

Im happy to make the playoffs and be competitive this year. Maintain the culture, and hope the kids can take those next steps. At this point, im pretty pleased with this season.

Ha. Ya, I was sitting right behind Binner on that play. Also, Nick Jensen was horrible. They are in a rough part of their schedule with the WJC’s taking them out of Ottawa for a long roadie but they looked terrible. Hard to believe we lost to them 8-1.

Good game from the boys. Thank god for Fowler and Broberg. Our D would look atrocious without those two. Hopefully Suter can teach Tucker how to be an effective d-man without footspeed.

I’m sure this is most likely the best Fowler we will even have, but it’s been a lot better than I was expecting it to be so far. Another rock solid 24 minutes. He’s taking a lot of workload here so far, and the level of play is consistently good with it.

Parayko is a positive player and has 22 points in 40 games (45 point pace.) Averaging 24:30 minutes a night.

Fowler is a Plus 7 on the Blues with 7 points in 10 games. Averaging 22:30-23 minutes a night.

Broberg still leads the Blues with a +12 and is on a 40-ish point pace over 82 games. Averaging 20 minutes a night

He'll be 22 years old next month, and as a skilled forward, he's not generating much on a consistent basis, and I get that he doesn't have the best linemates, but still....

Bolduc's most common linemate Oscar Sunqvist who has 6 points on the season. Bolduc also is 4th on the team in 5v5 Points/60. But sure, let's relegate him to the 4th line. Y'all are silly.

Who is saying he should be relegated to the 4th line?

id expected Bolduc to be better in the second half. A lot of young guys take 50-games or so to start to figure out the league. He may get the Sammy Blais treatment and buried on the fourth line if he can’t produce by this time next year.

I didn't quote the whole conversation. I was responding to all of you though.

Saader loves that little soft shot through the 5 hole eh? Lol.

Good on the boys for being ready to battle right from the start of the game. Now take care of f***ing business and beat the Blue Jackets tomorrow and let’s get a win streak going here.

What if you can see the tenacity in Bolduc, you can see the shot he has, you can understand he belongs in the top 9 if he's going to play ... but you're also noticing he has now taken about 6 brutal penalties over the course of the season, like "carelessly high sticking a guy while on the PP" type undisciplined mistakes (even though this specific example bizarrely didn't get called last night when the whole building saw it, the point is his decisions). The last game against Ottawa he dropped the puck in the Blues crease for the 8th goal, he has the costly brain fart in his game some. I'm noticing it. There's Rookie Leeway, I get it. But it has to be observed in real time given its accumulation.

[I'll brace now. I once said that Klim Kostin needed to clean up his discipline right when he was supposed to be blossoming after a KHL playoff run and had to endure some BS for noticing.]

No one took more brutal penalties early (and throughout) his prime than Perron, whom Bolduc reminds me of at times. Most of his penalties I’d say are because he’s being overly aggressive and perhaps out of position, not out of laziness. He’s young. Montgomery called him out after the Buffalo game and he’ll learn. I like him. Will he still be around when this team is contending again?…no one knows but he looks every bit an NHL player to me in some shape or form.
