I'd call that period a missed opportunity for Finland.

They started to lose their momentum at the end of the period - they'll have to regain that aggressiveness at the beginning of the second.

Grigorenko is so bad. All his passes go into Malkin’s skates, or two feet behind Malkin.

Why are they wasting Malkin with the worst wingers? It boggles the mind.

Russia with a good coach and the correct lines would be winning 3-0 already versus this Liiga team.

True, a goal or 2 would have been nice for them but still, I think many would have thought and expected Russia to have them down by a goal or 2 after one, they come out tied and just have to reset this intermission.

That Russian who high sticked Lindbohm on the face should've gotten a 2+2 penalty. There were blood.

Why this is not a live thread though?

I've been expecting us to get slaughtered for a while now. What is this dark magic. Someone dropped a case of Koskenkorva and all of it spilled. Hockey gods appeased.

The 2nd period will be the toughest for the Finns, with the long change. That's usually when the Russians crank it up.

Isn't that obvious? The Finnish team has been in a training camp basically a month before the tournament even started, while most teams had players flying in with zero practice together. The Finns make few mistakes and play their system to 100%, that's what makes them so tough to beat.

There were blood, rite
And there will be blood.

Plus sweat and tears. This is hockey World Champs semifinal.

Not a bridge afternoon with tea and biscuits in Kensington.

Oh so no dark magic? Me and my stupid theories.

I haven't been following this tourney very closely, but I sure am now.
