Watching the handshakes, Stenberg is one classy guy.

edit: the Finnish commentators during the period break about his goal: "the Swedish pick pocket" :)

On paper.. Sweden. But I don't think that matters. This is going to OT. Czechs play one of you tomorrow so I hope you go to war on each other. Finish every check. Block every shot. Push after every whistle. Leave nothing behind!

I have no idea who wins. Brain is Sweden. Hearts says Finland. So go hockey!
Congrats Finland! Very happy for you and your HF posters! Sorry Sweden. You have an amazing team here. Maybe see you tomorrow.

It is somewhat bothersome to me that most people (at least the swedes) are completely in the dark about this shared history.
You are not taught domestic history in Sweden (it is a forbidden topic).

You are only taught about other countries, cultures and religions.

No wonder the kids don't have belief in themselves.

I don’t get it…
Sweden score 3 goals on Rimpinens stick side. And still they shoot 40 shots straight in to his glove.
In the OT PP, Unger Sörum has 3 consecutive shots glove side.
I have never played hockey and even I can see how bad that PP is.

Also don’t understand why a Swede can never do something like the Finns do when they score that last goal. Break the pattern. Dare to be the deciding player. It’s fun to win.

Crazy that Sweden don’t even use their best goaltender.

Yes, it is similar in every Western country these days, but in Sweden, this phenomenon has been present for longer. Sweden transitioned into a left-leaning, socialist, and feministic nation earlier than most other European countries, probably because they could afford to do so as they weren't significantly involved in World War II. Financial success breeds complacency in the general population. As the saying goes, "Good times breed weak men, weak men create hard times, hard times create strong men," and so on. The same phenomenon has caused the rise and fall of every successful nation and empire.

On a positive note, because Sweden started this "complacency/softening process" earlier than many other first-world nations, they may be one of the first to break out of its chains as well.

It's quite likely that this reversal to traditional manly virtues, such as bravery, resilience, etc, is more commonly embraced by young Swedes today than by young Americans. While Americans will have grandparents with such virtues, you have to go back an additional generation to find Swedes possessing them.
You’re probably right about some of it affecting our ”killer instinct”

Not really, we’re taught about Vasa but not the wider effects of his actions in later years. In summary the conveyed knowledge is not comprehensive enough.

I'm both slightly (ahem) over-aged and the wrong sex but sure, I'll hope on a plane right now!! Do I need to know how to skate?

I believe in your team. They'll come back. Still a lot of game left.
We will put you netfromt on the PP... Just screen the goalie and hope it hits you and goes in. Thank you in advance.lol. 20 minutes of heart palpitation coming in.

I was one of the super negative people. I assumed the worst, I tend to keep most of my negative feelings to myself because I want to show even a tiny bit of optimism before I post haha.

Yeah, I remember some horrible years. Its been a very quiet few years for Finnish hockey so szome of the worst people are focusing on more important things than laughing here I guess.
My negativity torwards hopes for success started in 2003 against the Sweden in the QF. Probably don't have to remind anyone what happened there.
It faded away from 2011 when we finally started to win these tournaments.
1996 - 2011 was a very dark period.

I'm too young to remember 2003. My first hockey memory is 2006 olympic silver.

I started following hockey closely in 2010. Granlund days.

If you're good enough to play in the WJC, you didn't spend much time in school anyway.
In the OT PP, Unger Sörum has 3 consecutive shots glove side.
And for some reason he refused to pass it to Sandin-Pellikka during that PP, who without a doubt has the best shot on that team. Instead he took all the shoots himself despite not being a good shooter.
