U18: Semi-Finals at the U18!

What's your prediction for that Sweden game?
geez, I mean, does Canada suddenly put it all together come the money game despite looking very shaky all games before? I've seen that happen too many times to count and it could just as easily happen yet again tomorrow. What concerns me is the quality of our back end, to actually pull things together when it counts against quality competition you need the personnel to do so and I wonder if the defensemen we have got are actually all that good in reality as opposed to their reputation.

Some nice names with decent pedigree but their play hasn't matched up to it yet. Our strength so far has been our offense but Sweden has looked to be the best defensive team here so far to me and they have enough offense on that team that if we can't crack through their defensive set we haven't shown anything yet that says we can keep them off the board sufficiently unless bjarnson makes a lot of key saves.

Going on what I have seen I would say Sweden yet you know and I know the history of Canada
and Sweden in big games.

It's the classic head says Sweden heart says Canada thing. I will say I hardly expect an 8-0 drubbing like the first game.

So we agree.. tough call!

Swedes in round robins and Swedes in elimination games are also different animals. I've seen Canada stink up a lot of round robins and win the whole tourney and I've seen Swedes dominate every damn round robin and not win Gold.

I have no idea.. you both kicked out asses and hopefully the third is close when I tune in.lol

Same thing.. head and heart are different. And teenages are not predictable!

Yeah, i think it's a close call, the thing is, the way we have played defense as a team so far we may have to nail 5-6 goals on them to win this game, are we going to be able to do that against what has been a sound defensive team like sweden so far?

My sleep likely wont be rock solid tonight.

IF today Slovakia win, it will be mirracle on the ice II
same with sweden beating canada. that 8-0 game was just weird and does not really count

this is u18 not u20, sweden have 2 gold recently in u18

Pretty surprised how confidently Germany looks to be heading to lower division.
Update: And they relegated loosing 3:2 to Norway with only 16 shots on goal.

Well congrats to Norway.
Weak German Team this year, looks better the next years unfortunatly its is a year in the second division coming up. :ha:

Not predicting anything, but has anyone ever heard a good explanation for why the semifinals and finals are on back-to-back days in all IIHF tournaments? It's always unfair for the teams who play the late game and especially unfair for the teams who play the late game and then have to play in the bronze medal match like 16 hours later. Has anyone ever read or heard why the IIHF does this?
Just logistics. The kids are 17. They got tons of energy and the junior schedules are used to playing 2 or 3 days in a row on weekends.

Slovak goalie playing well to keep his team in it but only 1/6 through and he’s under a lot of heat.

Is he on the draft radar?

If Slovakia can get out of this period down 1-0 it's a win for them, they are under siege pretty hard.

They are doing their best out there but this is a monumental challenge for them.

Good hockey, USA's quality is obvious and the goals are a reflection of it, but Slovaks have shown some good flashes too with some quality chances that could have gone in incl. a post that would have made this a game Unfortunately it's pretty much over with the 3 goal lead.
