So what do we have. One top player with a dumb match penalty. Terrible defensive positioning all over the ice. And two top goalie prospects crapping the bed. Yep it’s junior hockey.

Russia is not THAT much better. Sweden will have good stretches too in the upcoming periods.

Junior hockey at it's finest.
I expect some good stretches for sweden I just don't know if they will be sustained stretches enough to take this russian team out. But hey, it's 3-2 in the first period, lot of hockey left to see what shakes out.

Still a hit to the head regardless. I know what you’re saying but, it’s a pretty black and white rule.

Its a rule, but its a DUMB rule. There should be context to the situation rather than simply saying 'its a hit to the head, you're gone no matter what' rather than looking at the entire incident and then making a call that allows for some flexibility depending on the situation.

That type of stuff happens in split seconds. I'm sure it wasn't intentional. But it was a check to the head area.

Primary contact seems to be the shoulder to me. The Russian just skated into it. The arm - and the elbow- only goes up after the collision has taken place.

Now please use a good example where we need actual context on headshots that wouldn't happen without the player initiating the contact upwards with his hands himself, this situation is NOT comparable to someone falling down and someone hitting that fallen player to the head because of the sudden movement. He had all the time to line him up correctly.

He might have not meant to do what he did, but he absolutely hit the head and was rightly ejected, he was at fault at there being a head contact.

and people said askarov - top 5 pick :(

How bad is this draft if this guy is a top-5 pick. No idea what makes him that much better prospect than Vasilevsky or Samsonov who both outplayed him in pretty much every level pre-draft and both got picked ~20.
