GDT: Second Round of the 2025 Playoffs

The biggest cliche is that that you're not in trouble until you lose at home, but even recognizing that the Leafs have home ice in a now best of three series, I'm thinking Florida has the edge.

Part of me thinks the Leafs have suffered enough.

Nah.

Maybe a hot take I don't know but if a Canadian team did win the Cup I'd probably rather see Toronto do it before Edmonton or Winnipeg out of who is left.

Hmmm...

I think my Canadian rooting interest would be....

Habs
Flames
Sens
Jets
Nucks
Leafs
Oilers

So I guess I half agree. Jets seem harmless to me if they win.

According to Ron Maclean, 86% of teams that win the first two games of a series advance. It took Florida a while to get going but they are rolling now.

I think this Panthers team could well be destined to be in the 14% that defy those odds.

Jets fans couldn’t even sell out their home games with the best regular season team in the league. Screw them.

How many of those 86% lost games 3 and 4, though? I bet you most of the 14% did.

I met Ron Maclean once when I was still bartending a few years back. Very nice guy.

He'll probably re-sign an 8 year deal with them when he can

I agree. Last year was their year. This year was doable but probably not if Pickard doesn’t return.

Future years with Drai’s new extension and whatever McDavid and potentially Bouchard get combined with trading picks and prospects at TDLs….

Well, I can’t see them having the depth for a run after this season unless they get lucky with a second round pick exploding or something.

McDavid will also turn 30 in year 1 of his next contract.

3/4 of the way through the season, I could see how Mitch Marner would be a decent pickup for this team in the offseason, and paying him 12+mil to do so.

Now? I don't even want him for 10mil. Toronto is going to let him go, and he'll sign on another team where he won't contribute much to a hockey team when it matters. Stay away from him.

Hall was fine here, just injured all the time and slotted too high in the lineup.

He’s slotted appropriately in CAR, he has the 8th most TOI of their forwards these playoffs.
Not this year he wasn't.

He just sucked with the Hawks.
