LeBrun: Seattle willing to retain 50% to facilitate Brandon Tanev trade.

Agree 100%.

The Leafs need to upgrade Simon Benoit and Timmins is below Benoit on the depth/talent chart.

I’ve never understood why fans overrate players on their favourite teams.

Personally I don't like Timmins.

Woll's last start aside, with the goaltending that team has gotten all year I do think the team can win a championship, I am fully confident in their goaltending.

I'm only about 85% confident in their defense and that's got a little bit to do with Benoit but the vast majority of that is Timmins.

If they replaced Timmins with a David Savard or Conor Murphy, or Jamie Olesiak I'd be much more sold on the defense.

I don't think they need much.

That's why I'm OK with going all in, but if they can get what they need without doing that, that's fine too.

I could see both of Tanev and Gourde bringing back a second if there’s heavy retention, a third probably at least. These are exactly the kind of players teams are looking for this time of year and they’re both pretty high end at playing that role.

I have ZERO confidence in Timmins and not much more than that in Benoit. Toronto desperately needs at least one top four defenseman and ideally a second defenseman who can slot into the bottom pairing.

If Benoit has to play anything beyond 12mins a game in the playoffs, the Leafs aren’t going far. And if Timmins plays at all in the playoffs, Toronto has no hope.

I’ve explained several times that the best option for Toronto in terms of ability/availability/contract is Mario Ferraro. He can handle 20 to 25 heavy minutes and would be a great fit for Rielly.

Thing is he's on SJ, is he good, or does he look good on SJ?

That's the question

I think they can manage to get a lot out of Tanev at 50%.

But, I think Tanev should stay in Seattle considering he's been a fan favourite and has been valuable for the Kraken.

I'd spend a 2nd to get an elite 4th liner like Tanev. Guys that move the needle in their respective positions are always worth the draft picks.

Brandon Tanev + Yanni Gourde

For

Tarasenko + Motte + 3rd in 2025 and 4th in 2026 or 2027.

No retention on Tanev needed. Tank is off the books next year and you guys can trade him at the TDL in 2026 for a 2nd or 3rd. Motte is just a throw in for contract purposes.

Toronto can top that offer easily.

We can say the same about Gourde, and captain Eberle, and big rig Oleksiak, etc. This management and ownership needs to get away from this thinking. Fan favorites are good if the product on the ice is good. Our product is as good as the smell in Pike Place market.
