He gets hammered more than most because he is playing worse than most. Not that the other players are perfect (e.g., Montambault), which I have acknowledged. But Xhekaj's mistakes are minor-leaguer bad. Saying this, he had a good game against Philly, aside from the Sanheim goal.

I always assumed in the past that Xhekaj was going to be a 5-6 D on this team for 10 years. I don't see this anymore.
That’s untrue. Would love to St. Louis say that he’d like to see Anderson, Dvorak, montembeault, Savard, Matheson etc be better versions of themselves out there.
I HOPE it’s because he cares about him and sees a quality dman with size and a skillset that can develop.
Arber’s job isn’t easy when he’s playing on a small, soft team that Lacks character and grit.
I don’t see you mentioning his nice rush in the first or big hits tonight. There are a number of dmen who made “minor league bad” mistakes tonight including struble, Mailloux and Hutson.
He absolutely needs seasoning - and patience.
There’s a reason he’s in many rumours, it’s because other teams want him.
And we’ll regret trading him.
If it happens

I respect your opinion, and I hope he turns it around, but I don't see him ever outcompeting Guhle, Hutson and Struble on our team. The team will likely acquire a veteran RHD at some point, and Reinbacher, Mailloux and Barron will fight for the other two spots on D.

Yep seems like Montombeau is back. Was fun while it lasted. For me it doesn't matter how good or bad the defense plays if you give 8 goals in 23 shots then you have been terrible.

He has always been a fringe 0,900 goalie. Not sure why people thought it would change.

Tough loss. Monty seems to have let the early season accolades get to his head a bit... Hopefully a wake up call and he doubles down on.

I'd like to see
CC Suzuki Armia (🤢)
Slaf Dach Newhook
Anderson Evans Gally
Kapanen Dvorak Pez/Heineman

Feel like that 2nd line could get going and start being a menace, pulling away some of the matchup focus on Suzuki's line... Armia is smart, Suzuki & CC might just be ready to carry a bottom 6 guy who can at least read & respond to what they create.

Laine back and Roy coming back to the NHL ready to give solid 3rd line play would help things immensely

The worst thing that happened to Xhekaj was not having a couple of FULL seasons at AHL level, and being crowned « favourite player » by the fan right out of the bat. He is very mixed up right now. It would be a challenge for the org to send him down to Laval (with Mailloux).

Yeah I don’t understand how you can be an undrafted CHL player and not spend any time in the AHL. He needs time to refine his game. He was tearing it up in Laval in his brief stint last season too and they cut it short.

For any young player, where you land matters. X, if he was the only youngster or just 1 of 2 youngsters, it probably would be better for him as he'd be on a 3rd pairing with a veteran. Right now, he's on a roster with 2 veterans whom neither is great defensively. Would either have been graded a "B" or better for their Defensive play over their career? No... And the rest are 114 game Guhle, raw rookie Hutson & Mailloux, and 94 game Barron and 34 game Struble plus himself at 80 odd games.

Habs have some long term guys they expect to be here when they return to the PO. Guhle, Hutson, Slaf, Suzuki, Caulfield. Hoping to add a couple of Dach, Kapanen, X, Struble, Barron to that first group. Up to Hughes to figure out if he's assembled the right roster and coaches to develop the players.

My own personal rant, be it with Montreal, or Columbus, or any club that is bottom 5/6, is that they shouldn't call kids on elc up unless they are ready to stick at the NHL level. X was a guy who should have stayed in the A vs go to the NHL that quickly. Joshua Roy, same thing. Should have left him in the A longer last season. I get once the TDL passes and you want to give them 8-12 games to see the speed of the NHL, but was really no reason to have them up as early as they did. AHL is the developmental league. Let the kids stay there until they are ready to be full time NHLers.

As former Expos manager Buck Rodgers used to say: “ you’re going to get blown out 25% of the games and blow someone out 25% of the games, what matters is the remaining 50% of the games”

He should had spent the rest of the season there….. But they badly needed his muscles… And the fans were demanding that he must be back in the lineup. Finally, he was badly injured for a second season in a row.

As former Expos manager Buck Rodgers used to say: “ you’re going to get blown out 25% of the games and blow someone out 25% of the games, what matters is the remaining 50% of the games”
That's purely baseball's philosophy.

Rempe was uber popular with the Rangers fans, Where is he now ? In the AHL where he belongs until he learns how to really play a pro game. Same should had been applied with Xhekaj, even more because he is a d-man, a more difficult position lo learn.

Agreed. Everyone is down on the coaching staff, which is understandable, but his message and actions weren't compatible this summer. Yes, Laine is nice, but there's so little quality experience in the lineup and the defense is just too young to compete. I don't mind it as I can tolerate another tanking season, but it was their message that they'd be in the mix.
TBF, they said they wanted to be in the mix, not that they'd be in it.

Before last season, they were criticized for not wanting to say the P word (playoffs) by impatient fans and media.
This season, they are criticized for saying they want to be in the mix, play meaningful games later in the season.

Whatever they say, they can't win really.

Anderson has played very good, true, the Anderson - Evans - Gallagher line is excellent.

Christian is not a NHL player now.

Mailloux, Hutson, Struble and Xhekaj are young guys, they still can make mistakes.
