Seguin reference with Monahan? There's reaches, and then there's this.

Don't act like Seguin didn't have his struggles.

Seriously anyone that claims Sean isn't a number one Center, name the players that have more points and or goals after their draft 3 seasons then him?

The guy was a PPG his last like ~35 games last year. Actually he out scored Gaudreau in that period.

Also, he has proven chemistry with Gaudreau.

If you trade Sean. All of a sudden teams key on the Backlund line and they don't look so successful. Instead of Jankowski playing 3rd C where he should play, he'll basically be our de facto number 2 Center.

After years of watching decades of Craig Conroy, Olli Jokinen and Daymond Langkow as our #1C, you want to trade the only guy that's proven he can handle that role since Nieuwendyk? Wow.

I certainly didn't say they should trade him, but he doesn't have nearly the offensive skill that Seguin has. Seguin also produced at Monahan like levels from the 3rd line in Boston. That was my issues with the comparison, not that Sean couldn't be a #1C.

Don't bring up pointless stats like that. Draisaitl was a PPG centre in his first 35 games last season too, RNH was a basically a PPG player in the last 30+ games of the 2014-15 season. Players have hot stretches, doesn't mean they can sustain it.

As for if Sean is a #1C right now I'd say its pretty borderline. 60 points with average to below average defensive play is cutting it close. He's certainly not the #1C you'd want on a playoff team unless you have insane depth and a top 5 goalie on your team.

Tom Wilson, Brett Connolly, Madison Bowey from the caps

That's THREE right hand shots for you.

You can also put Wilson with Tkachuck and make Oilers' lives miserable.

Numbers don't mean **** if you aren't able to replicate them.

How many players were put in the position Monahan was coming into the league? How many of those players were handcuffed to a playmaker like Gaudreau? How many were given 1st line minutes because the team they were on had terrible center depth?

Acting like he's a number one center because he had great chemistry and we haven't had anyone better is idiocy. Flames fans continue to judge him based on point totals put up on teams that the majority of people thought wouldn't be any good. Now that expectations are higher and teams are aware of him and Gaudreau, he hasn't been able to produce like he should and Flames fans would rather give excuses than be honest and admit he just isn't as good right now as we thought.

Now with all this being said I'm not advocating for trading him now, but he needs to seriously work on areas of his game if he is going to be a true #1 center.

This year, definitely below average. Last year, he was average. Not sure where the Toews II thing comes from either.

When he was drafted, he was by far the best two-way guy in that draft. Unfortunately, that side of his game never really developed further.

No one thought he had a better two way game than Barkov.

I've wanted Johnson since early 2013, especially as he's from Spokane and that's what closer to Calgary than Vancouver? (I'm not sure), however from a cultural standpoint, Spokane is definitely more similar to Calgary than Vancouver. Back in late 2013, and early 2014, I suggested Backlund and our 1st rounder for Johnson, Tampa's 1st, and because Kucherov didn't do much that time, but showed a lot of promise him as well... However, now I've really set my eyes on Palat, and I think he'd be a fantastic fit. Yes he's a LW, but imagine a Palat-Backlund-Frolik line. The best 2-way forward line in the entire league, with Brodie and Giordano, will that line ever not be in the opposing zone haha? Either way Johnson coming here would be awesome, but so would Palat.

MacKinnon was projected to have better 2-way game than Monahan. In fact the only reason why Drouin was able to attack so much in the Q was because of MacKinnon and Ehlers (In separate years), who did the defensive work for him.

Not a bad deal in a vacuum but LA passes on any Toffoli for Monahan deal. TT can flat out score and generate excellent chances in the playoffs and that makes him as valuable any second line winger out there.

The **** are you talking about bro?

All I said is hes from Brampton, you know, on the relevant side of Canada

Well you added to a post that said "never trade young 1st line centres" by adding "especially when they're from Brampton". If you can't see how that might suggest that you're referring to Seguin, then I'm not sure what to tell you :dunno:
