My question is where does a 5 ft 9 ,175 lb C /W gonna fit in the Habs future lineup?

He's in the NCAA Final Four that doesn't wrap up until April 8th
I don't think he signs after that either. He needs another season in the NCAA and I'm not even sure he gets a contract in 2024 if he does not improve to 1.0 ppg. We have so many propsects....

As a LW on the 3rd line.
If he hits his ceiling, eventually as maybe even a top-6 winger. At age 24-25 I would not bes surprised.

Annoying to see these NCAA players able to burn the first year of their ELCs. Ideally he would have started in the AHL. Now the team will have to send back to Laval somebody else that worked hard the whole year.
Pretty sure Farrell worked his tail off this year, playing hockey earning a Hobey Baker nomination, and getting his education at the same time.
Meanwhile in Montreal we have had vets coast and collect a pay check all season long, we all know who they are and we also know who is NOT part of their future, so doing this makes absolute sense.

Who cares who sits? Who cares who goes back to Laval................and at the same time, would it be ok to assume Farrell could join Laval also if the team decides so?

Farrell can play in Laval in the RS, but not in the playoffs.

I wonder if the plan is to let him get a couple of practices first and have his debut on Thursday or play him right away?

I think the Habs want to send help to Laval ASAP. Farrell will get some games in and he might play against the Flyers.

Someone's getting sent to Laval and the Rocket making the playoffs is important.

This year, we had a bunch of prospects turning pro. We didn't expect most of them to make the big team. But next year, the amount of prospects who will turn pro + the young players already pro, we'll have them coming out the wazoo in both Montreal and Laval.

Farrell, Roy, Kidney, Heineman, Davidson, Simoneau, Mysak, Mailloux, Norlinder, Trudeau. Beaudin, Struble, Fairbrother, Primeau, RHP, Ylonen, Guhle, Xhekaj, Harris, Barron, Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Dach....

Then you wonder if they have Beck in Montreal. Or if they will have Mesar turn pro. Or if they will bring Tourigny over. Or if they sign someone else out of college, like Tuch or Dobes.

Farrell signing has nothing to do with our plans on trying to help Laval make the playoffs and sending down players when we can. Injuries has affected their strategy slightly. RHP, Ylonen, and Belzile will be playing with Laval and Farrell might be needed in the NHL to fill a spot.

Excited to see Farrell play

He's going to have to displace Dvorak eventually and Evans immediately.

Just to preface: Immediately being out of camp.

It will be very interesting to see who and how many get moved in transactions. Hughes obviously has no issues with trades involving multiple parts and partners.

Yes, I should have prefaced it. That barring any trades, all of these guys will be in the pros next year, whether Montreal or Laval.

I will be disappointed if Farrell can't crack the top-12 F at camp. At age almost 22, he won't be sent down justy due to being "too young".
Calm down a bit... He is still learning the pro game. It is better for his development to play a lot in the AHL and when he eventually dominate be called up.

No he can't. He's ineligible to play for Laval at all, whether regular season or not.

He signed his ELC after the TDL, and his ELC kicks in this year. Unlike Struble, who also signed his ELC after the TDL, but his kicks in next year and he signed an AHL deal to play in Laval, which makes him eligible.

If the player is already signed to their ELC prior to the TDL but are on your reserve list and not pro, then they are eligible to join once their seasons are over, which is why Heineman is eligible for Laval.

In terms of eligibility after the TDL, there is no distinction between regular season and playoffs. You're either eligible or you're not.

This is easy to manage. Condotta, Stephens, Richard, Teasdale, Bowey, Schuneman, Leskinen and Allard will all end their contract after this season. They will have a young team in Laval next year. The key is not to trade good players too early. The Romanov trade should be the blueprint on how to operate. The team is finally in a position where they don't need to rush young players.

I really thought Beck had a shot next season but the numbers game says otherwise. If both he and Mesar are still eligible to play Junior I expect that is where they will be. I can't remember when we last had such an influx of Pro ready players.

It will be curious what they do with Mesar. Because in Beck's case, it's either NHL or Junior. But they don't have that limitation with Mesar. He's eligible for Laval.

In terms of his playing, is it not our standard practice now to offer a desirable NCAA prospect a first year contract burn to help the decision for him to sign with us ? Not sure if that's at play here.
I think it’s everybody’s standard practice now, the only carrot you can dangle before they go UFA, gets you paid and playing right away, one year closer to your eventual raise. This is league wide.
