I dont think he did as bad as some people are saying here, hes very crafty on the boards, handles the puck well and makes smart decisions, last game was probably the worst game of the year in terms of flow and offensive chances

he needs alot of seasoning, young guy for the farm
A very short sample size but in my estimation he will need a season in Laval minimum. Anyone who thinks this kid will jump over Ylonen, RHP, Heineman is fooling themselves. These guys are ready, Farrell needs seasoning. Nothing wrong with that.

Holy cow. I can't believe the comments I am reading here about Farrell 1st NHL game.....

The kid was at College level two days ago and did not had the luxury of a single practice with the Club. Being nervous is the least he could had been in this situation. I would had liked Habs to send him right away to Laval like Struble, but I think they can't because of his College status.

it's crazy right? I can't believe how many just jump on the bandwagon after his first game. You could tell he was nervous. That's what I don't post here as often anymore too many people jump to crazy conclusions too quickly.

For me it has nothing to do with this game in particular :
- He is good but I believe he would benefit from a year learning to play with men in Laval
- MTL has a lot of wingers, Farrell will have more time to play and develop in the AHL that is all
Slaf Caufield Gallagher Hoffman Anderson Armia RHP Ylonen will be ahead of him, no point playing him bottom line minutes and sitting him every two nights

He was playing 2nd line.
Drouin is his centerman lol *Yes think about it, Drouin* lol

What do you expect for his very first NHL game? lol

The guy has proven himself at the college and even Olympic level and was USA's best player at that tournament. Give him some time maybe to prove himself maybe not just after one game?

Not sure how anyone can make a judgment based on 1 game
I was simply evaluating his skating. Based on his skating I am guessing he needs more time. Remember that we are all arm chair experts and I am rarely right.

There is a traffic jam in front of him for sure. To move ahead of some of these guys he will have to show he is worthy.

This a foregone conclusion.

He’s only in Montreal because he CANT play in the AHL this season.

So he’s gonna get his 7-8 games this year, have a good off season, report to camp and will more then likely start in Laval.
I know why he is in the NHL now I just meant I don't think fans should expect him to have an impact in the NHL right away and he should have more quality minutes in the AHL

He was playing 2nd line.

It's absolutely not a foregone conclusion. If anything, he's a lot more likely to start in the NHL next season than to go to the ahl. He's turning 22 early next season, and he's got the production of a player who doesn't need to go through the ahl.

His skating is good. It isn't any worse than Caufield's skating last year.

Well we will have to disagree on his skating being as good as Caufield's.

Yes. He should center a line between Roy and Slafkovsky. HuGo need not to do the same mistake twice with Slaf and other young players. The rule for young players should be to go in Laval and force your way up. RHP, Ylonen, Barron did it, even an older player like Pezzetta and Belzile did it. Hughes and MSL talked a lot about building a good team culture, earning your roster spot is part of a good team culture. No one can look at RHP, Ylonen and Barron and say they don't deserve to be there. They did what they had to do and now they are ready to contribute.

I think he should be in the AHL next year.

Clearly a bust from the 5 minutes of his 13 I actually caught ;)

… For real as others have said, that was unimaginative and rather poor hockey from both teams, and he has not even had a practice yet. Hi, my name is Sean! I’m open!

Why would he play at Center when he will never play that position in the NHL - at least not with the Habs.

And the only reason Ferrell would not start in NHL next year is that Hughes has too many dead weight contracts that he might not be able to move. Ferrell is 22, he's ready for the NHL. Last night was not an indication of his ability or readiness.

Did we made the mistake of not sending Caufield, Guhle, Xhekaj and Harris to the AHL?
Do they deserve to be there despite ''not earning'' they spot by not playing in Laval?

And this is temporary, it's tied to his contract, that's part of the game.

Do some of the posters here have the self awareness to see what dramatic overreactionists they are. It's like the same people are wrong way more often than not but yet they show up at every available opportunity to spout nonsense without hesitation. Eventually you would have to realize that about yourself even if you are completely obtuse and lacking all introspection would you not?

This guy plays his first NHL game last night and the perennially wrong are already making absolute statements and proclaiming his future for next year. Honestly it's completely crazy, how arrogant do you need to be to jump on a guy after his first 10 minutes of ice time in the NHL. Ya'll need to chill so bad.

Kid has no business in an NHL rink. Not yet. But he will 'cause of contract issue. Thank god it will only last 10 games.

I kind of had the feeling even before last night's game. He will need development time like most. Guys that crack the roster next year are RHP and Heineman. Not sure of the long term plans with Ylonen.

Roy, Farrell, Kidney will be in Laval.
