I think it's a Labanc type situation and he'll get paid next offseason.

Might be a dumb question, but do you guys expect Durzi to get a shot at top power play, or do you think Doughty is locked in?

Doughty will still be on the top pp unit, but I could see them swapping places for a different look if Durzi continues to get it through and put up points. Doughty's biggest flaw is he doesn't get it through enough, and seems to hold on to it longer than needed.

Durzi’s camp won this negotiation. Coming into last camp, Durzi’s biggest accolade was dominating a rookie tournament as a 22 yo. He turned a 64 game performance into the fourth highest paid defenseman.

Doughty, Roy, Walker and Durzi are making the most money coming into camp. All are RD. Given the overspend on the right side, the plan to have one of Durzi or Walker play the offside is not really a choice.

If all the D are healthy, Toby is the clear odd man out who is Inland Empire bound. He’s been lapped by Moverare, which is sad. With no surprises, it’s easy to pick Todd’s D lineup for opening night.

I think Walker is clearly the man out. Higher cap hit. Playing on his off side. Coming off major injury.

Players that suffer the injury Walker did don't just come back and be their same old self. It can take another season worth of play to get their full game back.

Even though I’d not guarantee him a spot on the roster it’s hard not to like this deal. It gives them flexibility and makes him relatively easy to move if Spence/Clarke forces a decision.

Another great deal for the Kings from the clueless management. Off with their heads!

Nobody has had an issue with Blake’s ability to get guys re-signed to good deals.

Totally agreed and note- I didnt really think Walker was that good. Clearly a place holder for this season with younger dmen coming through the ranks.

Bjornfot - Spence as an AHL top pairing is pretty baller and good big minutes for both. I don't see any real problem with it, much better that he's actually skating instead of sniffing around the fringes of the roster.

Walker--he'll have to play himself back into value but he's got moxie, I'm confident he can do it. @Axl Rhoadz said it's been so long since he played it's easy to forget what he brings but at his best he's a minute munching PMD who can lug the puck and not be a liability, even looked good next to Drew. He's flexible and an easy plug-and-play on any pairing though obviously preferably lower in the lineup. I just worry for his value that he's not really a specialist in any particular way, he's just a good soldier with flexibility. Useful, but not highly desired.

I like Toby. I wish he was gifted minutes next to Doughty. There was a brief moment where people gave a shit about Drew saying he wanted to partner up with Toby. But Todd’s roster formula favors age plus salary over potential. This equates to “trust” in one player over another.

So can Toby succeed with Roy, who is locked at RD 2? Maybe in the first half of a season. But in crunch time, you can’t suffer zero offense and watching a rookie get walked even once if your whole strategy is to win one goal games.

If Toby played with Drew and had the freedom to go on attack, I think he’d figure things out when he is 23 yo. Instead we get Mikey who is older and knows how to keep things safe, so he plays with Doughty because he’s a low cost option than can chew ice time. Yet he still gets walked when it’s crunch time.

The likelihood of anyone being moved before the season starts is probably low at this point. We haven't seen anything that would indicate Blake isn't comfortable with the 9 or 10 options they have on D. He had to re-sign Durzi, Anderson, and Moverare, and knew Walker was coming back, but still re-signed Edler anyway, while Bjornfot played a team high 70 games on D, and with Spence having played decently, and Doughty and Roy obviously there, and Clarke as a hyped up prospect.
