With guys like Mika and Miller their overall game needs to be like it was yesterday for me to live with their gaffes.

Rangers aren't in a position to "not listen" on any trades tbh, but Miller is a guy Id prefer not to move. I've been pretty relatively outspoken on this - he's a defenseman that needs a solid partner and solid coaching. He finally has the former in Borgen, we need the latter now.

Mika is a different story. We all get attached to expectations of players based on hype, personality, draft capital (looking at machinehead's anti-Laf campaign), but ultimately once the season starts the only real inescapable expectation is the players cap hit. Mika was severely underperforming his cap hit, and so is deserving of a lot more blame than a Miller or a Kakko.

Unless Borgen really lights it up, I don't see him getting a big contract or big minutes. I mean it's possible, I'm sure you could find examples of it. You could also find examples of guys like him resting on the scrap heap at the end of free agency. We'll see, but it's hardly a foregone conclusion that he's getting a substantial increase in anything. Straight up.

He's a no frills player. The more he is invisible in a good way, the better. The way we gave Trouba big money hoping he'd evolve from top 4 to top pair, it would be a pleasant surprise if Borgen evolves from a bottom-pair dman to a top 4 guy for reasonable money.

So if they can get him on a 4 x 3.2 or something like that, I'd be happy. But any price tag about 4 and it sends the message that he's here to start in a top 4 role, which is not how you build a contender.

I think he makes for a good bottom pairing. Moore-Klein was great- we should try to recapture depth like that.

100% my mistake - i thought you were talking about miller. agree on all fronts re: your borgen eval.

i do believe that we will sign him as a justification of kakko trade. in this organization, to this owner, the optic is everything. sadly..

I could be convinced of a 4 year deal @ $3.5m. With the cap going up, that's bottom-pairing money. The concern then is, where does Mancini play eventually? Fox, Schneider, Borgen. Move him to the left?

He uses his body well, skates well, doesn't appear to be allergic to getting pucks to and around the net and is a good age. His point production is way down this year so hopefully that helps with the negotiation on the contract if they choose to take that path

I mean Borgen fills a team need and has played well. Age fits the core. You can call it justifying the trade but in all likelihood the Rangers would've been interested in signing Borgen this summer even if he didnt come in the kakko trade. I foresee more trades for guys like that leading up to the deadline. All the chatter was the Rangers liked Borg for a while. I dont think the rangers see him as anymore than what he is. Upward mobility on the right side is going to come from Fox, Schneider and potentially Mancini gaining more experience. It's best to have a least one vet on the right when the other guys are 25 and younger.

We have such an issue at LD that I'm open to trying anyone on that side, from Schneider to Mancini to Adam Fox (Though a coach would never have he balls for that- I think Fox is good enough on that backhand to make it work)

Schneider had played his best hockey this year (pre-trouba trade) on the left side. The handedness thing is a luxury that the rangers have always treated as a requirement.

I wouldn't put it past Drury to use Schneider to try and revamp the forward group, especially help at center. If he wants to move Mika still, there has to be an external replacement at C (I don't see a C swap with Zibanejad, I think they'll target a LHD.). Chytil cannot be trusted over 82 games and there is nobody else in the organization that could take even 3rd line minutes at C for what you need to be a good team.

I know Carrick is the senior member of the Cs and can probably be trusted the most, but I'd like to see Edstrom get a crack at it if Chytil is out a few more games, especially with Berard. We need to see if these guys can carve out roles for October 2025.

Edstrom hasn't shown anything more than being a solid 4th liner, imo. Right now he can't be asked to fill a 3C role, where some offense is at least expected.

Borgen has been a good soldier. Hasn't said a negative word since he was abandoned by his temporary platoon in the French fields of Agneaux after he lost his rifle while in the line of fire and was left to die. He survived. Jimmy Vesey would've given Borgen his rifle.
