if you're mad about how the rangers generate f*** all from high danger areas, can't complete passes without going obnoxiously east-west, are mentally soft/have awful confidence issues, and can't carry into the offensive zone efficiently; Kakko was absolutely part of that problem.

i'm sorry i'm just not going to miss him. he's bad at everything we're bad at. he dryf***s the boards constantly leading to easy turnovers, is slower than a slug, can't make efficient passes, and is painfully overrated on the cycle. he's also soft as shit for his size which i know you lot hate.

it sucks it didn't work out. it really did. regardless of what the rangers did, this is not a high talent player and we have 6 f***ing NHL seasons worth of proof.

and if your point is "he has value/isn't bad/is a solid middle 6er" i don't disagree with you but there are players every FA that provide more utility in both zones than kakko and we don't wax poetic about them.

He's been here 6 years and it's has only gone down. We shouldve traded him for Eichel or Tkachuk when we had the chance.
You can't say his trade value was worse this season than last. He was a capable player who didnt live up to his draft status. Peope should be upset this is all they got for him, its an indictment on the gm

I wouldve traded him last year for Guentzel if that's what you're getting at. I dont think anyone would have been happy with dealing him for a rental though.

This was the bottom line. All other thoughts/points are really just noise. He has been complaining for years. He was gone. The only question, would the return be better now or later. That seems self evident.

And, thanks for writing in caps, lol. Maybe the first time in the history of the internet that it actually DID help me “get it”.
The caps were for the group that refuses to see the big picture re Kakko’s future and the Rangers organization. I don’t know if you were sarcastic or not but it truly is the bottom line to what transpired.

Fully understand that. Deal him at the deadline then.

This is ridiculous. No one is going to convince me that he couldn’t fetch a 2nd.

This is an awful trade.
1. That was not the point of your post and it wasn’t the first time you expressed this opinion that this vanilla 3rd liner wasn’t hurting the team so why trade him.

2. In the context of a return if Borgen is moved (if not he’s shown a value to keep him for a fraction of Trouba’s cost with minimal downside) at TDL for a 2nd that seems to be indication, then the return for Kakko would be 2, 3 and 6 picks which is pretty decent given all that transpired. You can’t convince me that he was worth much more than this… unfortunately and not via any fault of GM.

Baby steps. Let's first see if at some point he can notch 60 points in two back-to-back seasons combined.

I hope he does well tho, always seemed a likable enough dude.

So do all my relatives buried at Gate of Heaven
Oh for sure, he seems like a great dude. Tons of potential. Wouldn't shock me if he hit 60.

But, I was also kind of speaking to the fact that it would be our luck if he broke out now. I'll always root for him, but that would be painful.

in the not too distant past buch was traded for blais. a season afterwards they both hooked up on a few goasl for st louis.

in the not too distant future will borgen do the same with kk? too predictable? if anything it would be a shocker if this doesn't happen.

If such a problem existed, it existed before the trades, and that's why the trades are happening.
Yup. Just roll the clock back to before the start of 23-24 season and everyone agreed that it was look see evaluation period for Drury to see what moves had to be made. It didn’t manifest explicitly via last season’s results but this offseason it was confirmed that Goodrow and Trouba needed to go at least for cap reasons and Kakko for his performance and upcoming UFA status. Lindgren is not going to be here after this season or earlier. The rest of the moves are not this obvious but IMO Miller is in the somewhat similar situation to Kakko and he’s probably better to be moved sooner than later if we want to see a better return.

Nope, not being sarcastic at all. Like most here, I have a lot of thoughts, feelings about everything floating around in my noggin. Some are straight up disparate. But your one sentence cut through all the nonsense. For me at least, lol.

I like posters who are capable of changing their views and perspectives and don’t think that this is somehow is flaw. IMO it’s an indication of intellectual flexibility - someone to have a good dialogue. So props to you my friend!

Ill definitely be watching some more Kraken games. I hope they put him with Tolvanen. Even if his individual performance doesn't get better I'd be willing to bet he has more success playing for a team that's not toxic and that plays an actual system.

Totally understand that there's no reason you should believe me, but I have heard from someone very close to the situation that there is a legitimate fear in the organization that this will happen.

EDIT: To clarify, this was more in the context of "NCAA players now know their rights" and "IF something were to go south with the Rangers, Perreault very likely would consider this route". And now things are going south with the Rangers...
Meh. Perrault isn’t going to turn down the approx 2mil over the two seasons that he will get from the max entry level contract the can sign after this season. And the worse the NYR are the better chance he gets more responsibility, playing time.

That's the spirit!

In all seriousness, I'm supposed to have a scheduled, periodic 1 on 1 with the department head (boss of my boss) today, which I'm avoiding, because if I know myself, I would be airing my grievances about how idiotic my boss and the organization are. The head is relatively new and in a very similar situation to Drury, trying to change the way we've done things and the culture while growing the organization, and she actually seems competent, nice and engaged.
