Kakko is finally getting opportunity, and he's not squandering it.

He was a 2ov, brought in to a supposed "rebuild", that turned into a reload, and you don't ever play your prized prospect with your best player?

I saw Kakko play with Panarin 2 games.

One, he scored 2 greasy in front of the net goals.

The other he didn't point and they immediately switched it up

Kakko as a rookie, was having PP success, and was taken off.

He was yoyo'd to death. He had zero leash (especially with Quinn), where most top picks get playing time to learn from their mistakes.

Tell me the top 3 pick that got zero leash, never got to play with the best playerb(Panarin), and got embarrassed in a scratching in the playoffs when Ryan effing Strome was a dead man in the ice .

You can be the ultimate Pro-Ranger homer, Kakko did not get a fair shake, and I wish I knew why.
Kakko seemed hesitant, slow and stiff. I saw many times where he didn't shoot or move the puck in a timely fashion that killed a play. I recall one in the playoffs where he had an open net and hesitated and flubbed the puck. An embarrassing moment. That could fall on the Rangers for not giving him space to grow, or Kakko falling under too much pressure. Or a bit of both. Whatever it is hopefully the true player comes through. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery.

He's in his sixth season since getting drafted and has only hit 40 points as his career high. There are people bumping this thread every game as if they have no dignity because he's on pace for 46 points now.

Come on, have some self respect. Kakko might turn into a 60-70 point player, if things go well. But don't make this into something it's not. The dude didn't cut it with the Rangers as a top 6 forward. He did not earn 19-20 minutes that he's getting now for a bad team that lacks forward talent and doesn't have any mandate to win. He couldn't even handle 16-17 minutes with the Rangers. Any time he'd get a bigger role he'd go invisible and fairly find his way back down the lineup.

Yes, maybe he would've been better off playing initially for a team that sucked and he could've done nothing for a few years and they'd keep throwing him back out there, but that wasn't the situation. He did not show scoring talent needed to be anywhere near what he was hyped as at 2OA. Sorry, you aren't convincing me that force-feeding this guy who struggled to beat 40 points upwards of 20 minutes a game all of a sudden makes him some great player he wasn't three weeks ago when we had nearly 5 and a half seasons of evidence on what he was.
Being in your sixth season as a 24 year old behind a stacked forward group says enough. The rangers gm is horrible and should be fired.

He’s had some moments but he’s mostly been mid, and he was bottom of the barrel awful last game

Yeah, the team as a whole took a step back against Montreal.

But being mid is fine for a 4th D. He's been a big improvement over Trouba, while Vaakanainen has been a big improvement over Jones. The two of them have stabilized things back there.

Kakko was World Champion as top goal scorer before the draft and also set a new record for most goals by an U18 player in Liiga.
My comment was in defence of Slaf, not taking away from Kakko. That said, Slaf has out produced Kakko by the same age

You definitely grip the stick tighter if any mistake leads to an admonishment.

30 other teams missed out on him. Seattle got a steal. What I don't understand is if you're going to trade an asset, why not ask all 31 teams for a bidding war. Someone can offer than this. I don't understand secretly trying to trade an asset to a lone partner for a mediocre return. Perhaps trying to make a statement to Kakko that that is all he's worth? Doesn't make good business sense.

Because Drury is an incompetent asshole. I thought this was settled.

This one of those trades you look back and say why did they do it? Kakko looking better and better each game. Unreal what Seattle paid for him. Other GM in the league should he looking themselves in the mirror why they couldn't beat that putrid return.

16 pts in 21 games in Seattle. A ~62 point pace does seems pretty good for a guy they couldn't wait to dump, yes!
Again its a small sample size. He was on fire when he got there and everyone was saying how he is a PPG player but now he cooled off to the tune of 3 pts in his last 9 games. Now the bar is down to a 60 point player with all the additional TOI and PP time. At what point does he get demoted to the 2nd line or 3rd line? Seattle isn't very good so he is going to get more opportunity. He keeps up with that 3 pts in 9 game pace he is going to have his ice time cut.

Bump this thread another 30 games and let's see where he is at. I called he wasn't a 70-80 point player and I doubt he is even a 60 point player. Based on his skills he is probably more in the 50s with expanded ice time which isn't anything special.

It is a small sample size, so he can get back to ppg easily too.

Why settle for 1 PPG when maybe he can do 2?

Seriously after watching him every game for the past 6 years I can see you are going to be horribly disappointed. He doesn't shoot enough and his shot isn't that great. He is currently shooting higher than his career average by a third and is only pacing for around 20 goals. You really think he is going to get 60 assists?
