Borgen is 4 years older than Kakko and makes 300k more than Kakko. His max is 25 points in 82 games. He's UFA at the end of the season.
I don't really understand this trade from NYR's perspective.

Edit - didn't realize Borgen was D.
Seems like a "get this guy outta here as soon as possible" trade.

The Rangers wouldn't have had any leverage after that interview anyways but the return still seems underwhelming.

Drury really is having a bad year. No way he survives the year as GM. Rangers are imploding and he’s a big reason why.

Don't underestimate Dolan. This is the guy who stuck with Glen Sather for years despite no success in the biggest market in the US.

What amazes me is that Chris Drury was one of the worst FA signing in the history of the New York Rangers and stole, yes stole, millions of dollars from Dolan and now, he runs the f***ing team.

Incredible. IN. CREDIBLE.

It's funny to me that Drury allegedly refused to include Kakko in a Guentzel deadline deal only to trade him for a bottom pair D and a 3rd half a season later.
I never thought Kaako had that much value by himself, but I thought his value could lie in being a replacement player for the other team in a bigger add.

In this situation, he could've been the bunting of the deal and whilst there would be a + from NYR, I I don't know if they have to add on 3 2nds worth of value because teams probably still see some upside in him. Even if not, he's still a 40 point player who could work with Crosby.

I think this was a case of obvious asset mis-management

Additional by subtraction for the Rangers (but their record with top ten picks has stunk ever since Brian Leetch). Hopefully a few more crybabies are on their way out.

Drury will go down as one of the worst GMs in the long history of the Rangers. This trade is very obviously an emotional reaction to Kakko’s comments from the other day.
