Kakko is indeed kinda ass. It's his best year of his career 5 years in and really what it has amounted to is neither he nor the opponents score much with him out there - but he isn't even going against top lines. So he doesn't really have any great value. He is in line for that tough grey area of contract negotiating because of his draft pedigree as well.

Rangers fans are making it out to be much worse because the team is in dire straits and this also just sucks

Borgen is 4 years older than Kakko and makes 300k more than Kakko. His max is 25 points in 82 games. He's UFA at the end of the season.
I don't really understand this trade from NYR's perspective.

Borgen > Kakko. Although Borgen's stats this season don't look very good. Kaapo Kakko hasn't shown any consistency in the league. Who cares about his draft position. Where were the results? All flash and no substance.

I think Drury doesn't know how to negotiate trades and gets bent over backwards in every trade he makes (Trouba dump notwithstanding, though we know how he originally bungled that too)

Yeah as a Pens fan I'm rather surprised at that. Considering the package Dubas got back for Jake I bet he would have been pretty happy with KK as the centerpiece of a Jake trade.
