It's obvious that he's a bust. Of course you wish more out of a 2nd overall pick, but he's still a good 3rd liner. His production is not terrible and he's responsible defensively. Anyone with those qualities is a net asset and useful.

I don't believe a word about how this trade wasn't related to his comments. They could have waited for the summer or the TDL and probably gotten more in either case. The return wasn't so great that you couldn't pass the opportunity.

Obvious and obvious bust... He's a solid mid tier player and elite defensively.

2.5M cap hit on a seeminly healthy 23 year old 2-way performer on high value contract means high upside and low downside. There is even a chance he will dust off the bust label by just turning up the scoring. Even if he is or becomes injured, there is a good chance for recovery since he is so young.

It’s a decent gamble for Seattle but you can’t really say “even if” and then describe a player Kakko hasn’t even come close to becoming as if it’s his floor.

At 23 years of age. We’ll see where he is at 26 years old, I venture to guess he’ll be a 50 point player by then.

As we explained on the Devils board, it's a combination of a couple things. Anaheim not necessarily wanting to give out a long term deal when they have a bunch of young D who'll need new contracts in a couple seasons. Combine that with Anaheim not exactly being a hot free agent destination. You keep making it seem like they should have been a contender for Brett Pesce if they had offered one more dollar than the Devils. Who else was on the market? Montour? I don't think that's somebody the Ducks wanted a 7+ year reunion.

You even went as far as saying they should have signed T.J. Brodie and Alec Martinez which doesn't seem like a particularly great solution especially knowing that Martinez has missed more than half the season because of injuries. While both have experience playing the right side, Anaheim was looking for a RHD. Trouba fills a spot for the next season+ and Anaheim can likely get much more than the 4th if/when they trade him at next year's deadline.

Except he did want montour and simply failed to make a successful pitch to him.

And trouba is more on the level of Sean Walker, Brendon Dillon, Brodie, Martinez tier than he is the Pesce, Montour tier

He's a 3rd liner. And currently a replaceable 3rd liner. I think you're being very generous with your "very good." Maybe that changes. Hopefully it does. But it wasn't changing for us.
