"Our team can play with more speed," noted defenceman Morgan Rielly. "At times we got stalled a little bit and we weren't moving our feet, especially as D-men, and I think that impacts the forecheck." ~ Morgan Rielly, Toronto Maple Leafs

Really? He hasn't had his normal speed all season. Just win. Shut up and win.

How we feeling tonight?
Good, losing Tavares is going to make everyone play with more urgency. It's similar to how the team rallied when Matthews was out for a handful of games.

No longer is this a "go through the motions, this should be a lock" type of series. Every damn game from here on out is game 7 and I think that bodes well for us.

We just don't have the team for that plain and simple. I had mixed emotions when Chiarot was pushing Matthews last game. On one hand it's funny to see Matthews laughing like that and you don't want to take a retaliation penalty sure. On the other hands I kinda got Marchand Sedin vibes.

Obviously not as bad, but still would have liked to see a bit of pushback. You can see Hyman had it. Matthews not so much.

I got the Marchand on Sedin vibes as well. If Matthews hadn’t already had a long history of guys like Trouba, Chiarot, Weber, putting the lumber on him and forcing him to miss time, sure, headly play. But at the same time, you have to make it hurt for him to play you that tough.

I think a lot of new age thinking will say, why draw the retaliation penalty? But historically I look at a guy like Mark Messier, who would have put Chiarot in the infirmary for touching him, whereas Mario Lemieux took so much abuse he was always injured. If you can’t protect yourself by discouraging others you will always be a target.

I actually thought we played well last game. Price was just simply sensational... (yes I know we've heard this before)...

Jumbo Joe had a rough game but I'm predicting he and the 4th line step up in a big way tonight... especially my boy Spezza

we got this shit
100% agree with this!

Lead the way (interim) Captain Foligno. This is why we brought you here.
Expecting a collective effort on the leadership front from the veterans tonight - Spezza, Thornton, Simmonds, Muzzin, & Bogosian.
As am I but Mr Marner needs to play like he deserves his contract.

Love foligno and he knows what it means to be a captain, glad we got him for this run, but one day Tavares will retire, and Matthews will carry that work load.

This is a time for him to lead his future team.

I think we'll see a pretty strong bounce back game tonight from our Leafs after a poor outing in game #1.

I expect a 4-1 type game toady with the Leafs winning going away.

Gonna feel so weird lookin back at these threads about how tough this is etc etc when Toronto wins 4-1 at worst 4-2.

I think there's a big enough difference from the Marchand situation that it's not too comparable. Matthews was throwing the body all night, if he wilted after that moment and started playing scared I could see the Sedin comparison.

I'd definitely rather have him throwing Messier elbows in the corners more often over winning Byngs though.

Assuming matthews wants to stay. That 5 year deal will come back to haunt us.
