Aside from the Foligno fight, which was more symbolic than anything else, I'm disappointed they let Montreal continue to play them so hard without the game turning into a scrum after every whistle. Normally, hockey emotions run high after that kind of catastrophe, but what it looked like was the team was more stunned than anything else. Hyman getting dumped by Petry while 2 Habs stood over him with not even a face wash was extremely disappointing.

This was Ryan Graves fighting Brendan Lemieux after he hit Girard in Game 56. This is an ultra skilled Avalanche team on an 8 game heater:

This is Landeskog on Schenn after Rantanen was targeted.

Wish we had this:

Was pretty pathetic seeing Petry stand over Hyman after cross checking him in the back of the neck.

Hey leaf pals, looking forward to game 2. I expect the team to be more engaged tonight.... game 1 was a tough one with everything that happened.

hopefully the top line can get going, and they can figure something out on the power play.

the power play heating up will make Canadians 2nd guess throwing a late hit or being aggressive after the whistle. That type of game weighs down the skill advantage the leafs have in the series, less people taking liberties on matthews Nylander and marner because of fear of taking a penalty and giving up a goal, best way to play against that style

also agree about Simmonds, he needs to be a lot more physical, him and foligno we’re pretty invisible in game 1.... id like to see them come out and throw the body around early and often

Apparently the coach thought it was better to play Foligno less than half the time he played Marner. One of a few things I hope changes this game.

The players I'm hoping play really well tonight:

Campbell - we need the goalie to play well, duh
Nylander - last game he was fantastic, if that's playoff Willie going forward that's HUGE for us
Marner - we need this rich kid to earn his pay, simple as that

If all that happens, I expect a win. Make it happen guys!

Edit - oh yeah Keefe. If Willie is on like that, give him more ice time FFS, the discrepancy in ice for Marner and Willie was just wrong in game 1, you're smarter than that, come on now.

And Nylander. Keefe did this same nonsense against CBJ last year also. Putting visibly tired players back on the ice and then everyone is shocked that they aren’t effective anymore

Someone needs to explain diminishing results to him

I dont mind that so much... as i think its important for toronto to get marner + matthews going... but you def added foligno to be a factor in the playoffs and not giving him ice time isnt going to help him do that.

Having Nylander in front of the net with Matthews shooting for tips and rebounds seems like an obvious fall back if our regular game is cold or getting neutered by the trap. Marner might be able to do more alone against their slower secondary matchups.

The Isles who have had troubles creating offense all season long have two PP goals today. If the Leafs want to have any success going forward they need to score on PPs.

What’s wild to me is the leafs lost a great player to a freak injury, sucked their emotions completely out of the game, and lost on an unlucky, albeit pretty talented goal by Byron to lose by one. And people are freaking out. .. ....

get ready for a Leafs rout tonight.

We just don't have the team for that plain and simple. I had mixed emotions when Chiarot was pushing Matthews last game. On one hand it's funny to see Matthews laughing like that and you don't want to take a retaliation penalty sure. On the other hands I kinda got Marchand Sedin vibes.

Obviously not as bad, but still would have liked to see a bit of pushback. You can see Hyman had it. Matthews not so much.

I hope our big guys play with some
Jam today. If Chairot grabs Matthews, he’s gotta retaliate punch him up a little bit

Do or die today. You can’t go down 0-2 at home and expect to win the series.

How we feeling tonight?
I actually thought we played well last game. Price was just simply sensational... (yes I know we've heard this before)...

Jumbo Joe had a rough game but I'm predicting he and the 4th line step up in a big way tonight... especially my boy Spezza

we got this shit

Lead the way (interim) Captain Foligno. This is why we brought you here.
Expecting a collective effort on the leadership front from the veterans tonight - Spezza, Thornton, Simmonds, Muzzin, & Bogosian.
