Positives to take away from the game:
- I don't know if it's possible for Makar to miss the net that many times again. His shooting was horrendous tonight.
- Lehkonen goal FINALLY
- 4th line was unbelievable
- Blackwood was unbelievable
- Necas came ready to play with a lot of heads up plays, nothing overly fancy outside of the failed 2-on-1 with Nate, and was shockingly physical
Negatives:
- Erik Johnson was horrendous and needs to come out immediately. The Stars threw 18 hits tonight. They aren't a physical team, especially up front. Aside from Marchment and Benn, who hits? And Benn doesn't hit unless he's mad/gooning it up.
- 2nd line outside of a good Nelson 1st period was bad. What's new, though? We knew Drouin-Nelson-Nichushkin didn't work from the TDL on yet Bednar started with it again to our annoyance.
- Did I mention Erik Johnson was bad?
- PK looked really bad. The Stars had multiple grade-A opportunities and if that happens in game 2, they likely pot a couple on the man advantage.

Yeah the Avs certainly have another level to get to. They carried the play most of the game but didn't trouble Oettinger as often as you'd think with twice the amount of chances (i.e. around 67% CF% through two periods).
It would help if Makar could hit the net of course. But also have to give credit to Dallas as they did a good job keeping the Avs to the outside a lot of the time.

I thought that was like a B- game from Makar at best and not just because of all of those missed shots. The usual control and burst just wasn’t there. Could be the ice, rust, an off night, or something else.
Regardless, I only expect him to be better and that’s a great thing for the Avs as this continues.

Oh yeah, it excites me knowing MacKinnon and Makar had B-/B games and the Avs still won 5-1.

And just like that Dallas' work to stay ahead of the Avs in the standings for home ice advantage is wiped out.
Dallas is on an 8 game losing streak and just lost Robertson. Tough situation for them.

Wasn't just Makar. The whole team missed the net a lot. Had to have 20 shots hit the back glass.
Clean that up, they're probably in pretty good shape.

Avs golfing two weeks ago if Fourgiev still in Denver.
Whew. Got real nervous when they got it to 2-1 but that Toews goal was HUGE.
Fantastic game from a lot of players but the real standouts to me Blackwood, O’Connor, and Manson.
I’ll have to double check but according to NST, Kelly and Drury had ONE shot attempt against at even strength.

I'm not entirely sure that pass was intentional. One angle made it look like he might have been trying for the deflection on goal.

Both fan bases cry about penalties… it’s annoying when avs fans say other teams cry about penalties and then in the same breath whine…
