I don’t fault benson in the least, outside of his pompous celly afterwards.

I really do not like the fact that there wasn’t any pressure on the play and the goalie is still down, without a whistle being blown. If there’s an immediate chance, let it play out if it’s not life or limb threatening, but there’s nothing to embellish there and he’s obviously hurt. The only reason there was a goal was because the goaltender is not able to play and that is a poor look on the refs for allowing it to get to that point.

You didn’t watch the video posted a few posts up did you?
Bednar clearly states that under different circumstances (ie the puck is already at the front of the net and sabres are hacking at it, it’s a good goal).
Of course I did, why would have I? I don't give a f*** what Bednar says. He's the coach of the Avalanche so of course he is going to be salty. The puck was deep in the Sabres offensive zone and you want the refs to blow the whistle because of a leg injury caused by his own players negating the scoring chance?

Wasn't called.. but i am sure if you open your eyes you will see it.
The refs who starred directly at the play and determined Wedgewood wasn't injured and also determined it wasn't a slewfoot by Kelly.

Didn’t they blow a play down earlier in this exact game tonight while Colorado had the puck because Dahlin was laying on the ice lol?
Yup. Where Dahlin was barely hit.

No he’s complaining about the inconsistency of the injured play call. It literally happened earlier in the game where they blew the whistle dead because Dahlin was hurt.

But by all means, don’t listen to other opinions. Seems to give good perspective.

Meh, in the name of the rule they technically got it right... It even says in the rulebook that the official "may" stop play. So its basically referees discretion.
And this is why the NHL rulebook is a joke. Filled with grey area subjective crap like this leading to life long followers of the game and players of it not even understanding calls at times.

Once again I advocate for NHL rulebook reform. Make it black and white. Take Ref discretion out of it as much as you can. The players and coaches will adjust. And they’ll adjust faster when the rules make sense.

The doghouse
This is a perfect stupid play. You have a goalie rolling around in pain. You have Benson score a gimme goal and celebrates a bit too hard. You have an Avs player try and chase him down only to get hit.

Obviously hopefully Wedgewood is okay, but it is otherwise a pretty damn comical series of events

Ah the ole well it happened here but not here argument. Are you really surprised that refs are not consistent? You never put the game in the referee's hands EVER! You wanna place blame look at the Avs player.

Wedgewood should be pissed....that his own defenseman did that to him. But we still found a way to lose, no worries.

Blatantly upended is a stretch.
Fine I'll revise....slew foot then...happy? Taking your leg and lifting another players leg to thrown him off balance is slew footing...."the act of a player using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent's feet from under him"

Nope.

Devon Toews, who knows more hockey than you do.

“I disagree with it. When a smaller guy cuts underneath a bigger guy… your edges are gonna go - it’s just physics. A bigger guy's gonna knock over a shorter guy in that situation. Unfortunately, it goes right into our goalie and they don't see it the same way… I still disagree with it.I think most of us do in here. I don't think Kelly was at fault really for anything that he did there. He doesn't really have a choice but to engage with that guy when he cuts under him. We hope [Wedgewood] is alright and we'll move on from it.”

Goalies would be more pissed if teams just allowed opposing midgets be in their crease all game.
It was a nothing play, the puck was below the goal line with no one in possession. Cycled down low to no one. There was literally no reason at all to even touch him

I don’t even blame Kelly because he didn’t really do anything wrong. Benson literally stops and turns towards him and then loses the physical battle. Kelly isn’t initiating contact there. He just stands his ground when benson tries to turn on him while going through the crease. It’s an unfortunate play. If Kelly purposely dumps him into Wedgewood, sure, then he’s a moron. That’s not what happened

It’s ok. The avs didn’t put it in their hands. I have no idea wtf you’re trying to say here. The AVS didn’t give up on the play and rely on the refs. They kept playing.

The ref applied his discretion differently throughout the game. That’s it.
